Company: Trans Mountain

Trans Mountain Corporation operates Canada’s only pipeline system transporting oil products to the West Coast. We deliver approximately 890,000 barrels of petroleum products each day through a dual pipeline system of more than 1,150 kilometres of pipeline in Alberta, British Columbia and Washington state.

Trans Mountain also operates a state-of-the-art loading facility, Westridge Marine Terminal, with three berths providing tidewater access to global markets.

As a federal Crown corporation, Trans Mountain continues to build on more than 70 years of experience delivering operational and safety excellence through our crude oil pipeline system.

With our expanded pipeline system now in place, Trans Mountain provides enhanced direct access for Canadian crude oil to world markets. The expansion realizes a world-class system for oil transport, developed to Canada’s high standards within one of the most stringent regulatory regimes in the world, creating long-term economic benefits, enhanced marine protection, enhanced safety and emergency management capabilities, and enhanced skilled-worker capacity building in communities and Indigenous groups.

Our Core Values

Trans Mountain’s core values – Safety, Integrity, Respect and Excellence – guide our every step. Each obstacle we’ve overcome or success we’ve experienced has been the result of a shared commitment to living these values every day. Together, we’re focused on doing the right thing for each other and our communities. If you are looking for an opportunity to apply your strengths in an environment that encourages Safety, Integrity, Respect, and Excellence, we invite you to explore this opportunity with us!

Location: Calgary Head Office

Department: IT Cyber Security

Reports to: Director, Cyber Security

Worker Type: Employee

Schedule Type: Full-time

Work Setting: In-office

Trans Mountain is seeking a collaborative, motivated, and values driven individual to join our dynamic team as an Infrastructure & Cloud Architect. In this position, you will play a key role in defining and driving the strategic design and direction of network and infrastructure technology across Trans Mountain’s IT and OT environments.

The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise in enterprise infrastructure architecture, cloud and hybrid environments, technology governance, and the development of strategic roadmaps, whitepapers, and decision documents that support long-term business objectives.

This position offers the opportunity to shape Trans Mountain’s future-state architecture, influence enterprise technology strategy, and work closely with senior leaders and cross-functional teams to deliver secure, scalable, and resilient solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and maintain domain reference architectures, standards, and design patterns aligned with enterprise architecture principles.
  • Develop technology roadmaps, whitepapers and decision records.
  • Ensure recommendations are aligned to enterprise architecture principles, regulatory requirements and security standards while supporting executive strategic direction and business goals and objectives.
  • Collaborate with project managers, business analysts, and technical leads throughout the project lifecycle — from solutioning through implementation.
  • Provide architecture oversight and governance across multiple concurrent IT and OT projects and ensure delivered solutions adhere to security, scalability, and performance standards.
  • Translate business and operational requirements into architecture blueprints and solution specifications.
  • Maintain documentation and architecture artifacts aligned to information management and record retention best practices.
  • Communicate architectural decisions clearly to cross-functional teams and leadership.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to business and technical stakeholders, bridging the gap between technical complexity and business value.
  • Partner with Cyber Security teams to embed security by design principles, including network segmentation, identity, encryption, monitoring, and secure connectivity across IT and OT environments.
  • Collaborate closely with the Enterprise Architect to ensure alignment with enterprise-wide technology roadmaps, integration strategies, and future state architecture.

Qualifications and Professional Experience

  • Post-secondary education in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or Business, or related discipline.
  • At least 10 years of experience in IT, with the last 3 years in architecture or senior technical leadership role.
  • Preferred certifications include TOGAF (The Open Group Architecture Framework), CCSP (ISC2) or an equivalent credential.
  • An Azure Administrator Associate certification, or a similar credential, is considered an asset.
  • Experience in oil & gas, energy, or utilities — preferably in pipeline operations or midstream sector.
  • Experience with telecommunications organizations is considered an asset.
  • Strong understanding of key design principles underpinning cloud, on-prem and hybrid environments.
  • Understanding of Purdue (PERA) models and how to apply principles in practice.
  • Analytical mindset with a practical approach to solutioning.
  • Ability to work across multidisciplinary teams including engineering, compliance, and operations.
  • Strong understanding of security governance.
  • A track record of delivering high‑quality work, managing competing priorities, and supporting key business processes or operational functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with colleagues and stakeholders from a variety of backgrounds and levels across the organization.
  • Effective communication skills, including the ability to convey information clearly, respectfully, and professionally.
  • Proven organizational skills with the ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to detail in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Commitment to inclusive practices and a willingness to contribute positively to a collaborative and supportive workplace culture.

Working Conditions

  • May need to provide support outside of regular business hours and/or on the weekend.
