Your opportunity:
The Project Coordinator and Designer provides project coordination and design support for capital and renewal projects undertaken by the Facilities Management Department. Working under the direction of the Manager of Facilities Assets & Utilities Planning, the role supports projects from planning and design through tendering, construction and close-out.
The incumbent supports project management activities, including coordinating consultants and stakeholders, managing assigned project tasks, and assisting with construction administration such as site reviews and documentation. Responsibilities also include design investigations, preparation of tender and permit document sets, and development and coordination of electrical system designs.
The role works collaboratively with internal clients and stakeholders to develop responses tovaried and complex program requirements. This includes space program analysis, test fits, layouts, data sets, 3D models, and supporting documentation. The Project Coordinator and Designer also assist in maintaining coordinated project documentation and materials across multiple capital projects.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Liaising between stakeholders and/or contractors
- Producing technical documentation and CAD drawings for approval
- Developing technical specifications for inclusion on CAD drawings
- Liaising with clients to ensure designs reflect operational requirements
- Checking the accuracy and compatibility of design elements
- Developing viable design solutions and artistic renderings
Essential Qualifications:
- Advanced college diploma in technology, engineering or related field, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum four years of related experience in Institutional design with an emphasis on complex interior projects.
- Sound knowledge and demonstrated experience of architectural, technical and graphic representation and graphic layout is required.
- Demonstrated ability to create 3D modelling at an intermediate level in Sketchup, AutoCad, or other similar software.
- Demonstrated ability to design and layout graphic materials for presentation and/or publication.
- Demonstrated experience in planning and design of systems furniture.
- Experience in the review of specifications, shop drawings and site (field) review of projects during construction.
- Demonstrated success in building collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent computer skills including AutoCAD with experience in the preparation of architectural drawings, Google Sketchup, Microsoft Office, Excel and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop).
- Strong interpersonal and verbal and written communications skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to generate new ideas.
- Must have a passion for quality and design excellence, artistic ability.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills
- Evidence of leadership, initiative, diplomacy and excellent judgement.
- Ability to set priorities and targets and to meet deadlines in relation to frequently changing demands.

Assets (Nonessential):
- Experience with Laboratory and Classroom design is desirable.
- Professional Degree in Engineering with the ability to track towards P.Eng. licensure strongly preferred.

- This is a TERM position ending in December 2028.
- The hours of work for this position are: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 4:15 pm.
- This role is currently eligible for a hybrid work arrangement, pursuant to University policies and guidelines, including but not limited to the University of Toronto's Alternative Work Arrangements Guideline.
