Market Transportation

At Jacobs, we're challenging today to reinvent tomorrow by solving the world's most critical problems for thriving cities, resilient environments, mission-critical outcomes, operational advancement, scientific discovery and cutting-edge manufacturing, turning abstract ideas into realities that transform the world for good.

Your impact

We are seeking a Senior Design Engineer to join our Highways & Roads team in Ontario. In this role, you’ll contribute to the design and delivery of complex transportation infrastructure projects that enhance connectivity and improve communities. You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and play a key role in shaping roadway design solutions from concept through to detailed design.

As part of our growing transportation team, you’ll work on major roadway and highway projects across Ontario. You’ll support the development of innovative, sustainable, and technically sound design solutions while helping deliver projects that keep people and goods moving safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

•Lead roadway and highway designs, including alignments, profiles, cross-sections, and grading

•Prepare and review engineering calculations, technical reports, cost estimates, quantity take-offs, and contract documents (CPS)

•Collaborate across the CADD team to develop engineering drawings and models

•Ensure designs meet MTO standards, and manuals, TAC guidelines, OPSS/OPSD requirements, applicable municipal standards, and client requirements.

•Participate in design reviews, value engineering, and QA/QC processes

•Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams (drainage, traffic, utilities, structures) to deliver integrated design solutions

•Support project delivery through planning, preliminary, detailed design phases, and tender package preparation.

•Conduct design reviews, value engineering, constructability assessments, and QA/QC processes

•Develop and review construction staging, phasing, and traffic management strategies

•Prepare Design Criteria Reports (DCR) and other technical deliverables

•Identify design risks and coordinate resolutions with internal teams, subconsultants, clients, and stakeholders

•Participate in client and stakeholder meetings

•Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff

Here's what you'll need

•Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field

•At least 4-8 years of experience in roadway/highway design and familiarity with MTO standards

•Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario

•Experience delivering preliminary and detailed design and preparing DCRs, SCRs, and tender documentation (CPS)

•Strong understanding of traffic staging, construction sequencing, and constructability reviews

•Proficiency in quantity take-offs and cost estimating

•Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication skills, and teamwork skills
