Purpose:

The Senior Technical Analyst provides all aspects of operational and technical support for Global Business Payment’s file translation platform. This platform is used to deliver payment and reporting services to Scotiabank’s commercial and corporate customer base.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

The Senior Technical Analyst, Special Processing Support Services will provide full system life cycle management (analysis, technical requirements, design, testing and implementation) and support of the bank’s file translation platform. The core duties of the Senior Technical Analyst will include:

  • Ensure the platform functions in a secure and efficient manner by providing second and third level operational support to the application and supporting environment (from scheduling jobs to troubleshooting and resolving application errors and maintaining hardware and software currency). On a rotational basis, provide afterhours and holiday on call pager support.
  • Assist with the ongoing work to modernize the operational support of the environment. This will include, both working independently and closely with IT teams to design test and implement new Intel server hardware and software upgrades to the environment and related monitoring, alerting and support mechanisms. Develop, implement, and manage virtual Windows images and the supporting virtual server environment. Also be the technical lead and or lead initiatives where business requirements and strategies are translated into technology and or operational upgrades to products, services, and the environment. These upgrades will have a direct impact on service level agreements with customers.
  • Fully document all hardware and software upgrades. Leverage audit, compliance, and ITIL best practices to develop and maintain consistent and repeatable processes for the ongoing maintenance of hardware and software. Develop new and maintain/enhance existing support and operational documentation and procedures.
  • Be an advocate for customer’s issues from an operational and support perspective. Provide customer feedback to other internal groups and departments to continually improve the platforms and services provided by the bank. Will proactively contact customers and relation managers when a service disruption occurs. Likewise, the candidate will also be tasked to provide updates to customers and relationship managers during an outage.
  • Role also has a deskside support component (provide end user support for approximately 200 users).

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? – We’d love to work with you if you have:

  • Strong communication skills, both spoken and written.
  • Understanding of Data Centre operational processes, procedures within an ITIL framework.
  • Some understanding of financial payment products and services (including technical aspects and business logic / processing) is an asset.
  • Understanding of software development life cycle (DevOps)
  • High degree of organizational and prioritization skills based on business and client impact
  • Excellent interpersonal skill to continuously keep up to date with product and technology enhancements by leveraging both internal and external contacts.
  • Understanding of various operating systems, Office productivity tools, internet protocols, networking, security and encryption technologies, computer hardware, alerting and monitoring and be able to provide oversight (and be the escalation point for the team) with troubleshooting technical configuration and setup issues with products and services, SQL DB administration handling (maintain the DBs, running queries, security and backups) and Infrastructure handling (Servers handling ranging from hardware to upgrade\maintenance).
  • Strong analytical skills are a must. The incumbent must possess the skills necessary to troubleshoot application and system problems.
  • Have some hands on working experience with networking technologies, operating systems (Windows desktop and server OS, nice to have - AIX, Linux, Red Hat, etc.), transmission control and internet protocols (TCP, IP, SMTP, SFTP, SSH, etc.), security and encryption technologies (example PGP, IPSEC, 3DES, RSA, etc.),Intel server class hardware, monitoring (example What’s Up Gold, HP Enterprise Insight Manager, alerting and monitoring (example Splunk) and backup and recovery technologies (example Paragon), virtualization (VMware VSphere, Control Centre, etc.), software imaging techniques and application job schedulers (VisualCron) and administrating Windows Active Directory and Group Policies. Have working knowledge of relational and embedded database technologies (SQL server, Microsoft Access). Have some Visual Basic and PowerShell programming skills, (nice to have -.NET framework, C +).
  • Programing languages and coding knowledge
  • Desk-side support experience
  • Database administration certificates (good to have)
  • Web design and creation (good to have)


Work Arrangement:

  • The Senior Technical Analyst is frequently confronted by customers and internal staff who require timely solutions to incidents affecting customers. These requests, coupled with unpredictable and fluctuating project deadlines, subject the incumbent to potentially stressful situations regularly. The incumbent will be required to work different shifts and times.
  • Rotating shifts required, with start times including 7:00 a.m., 9:00 a.m., and 12:00 p.m.
