About the Role:

Reporting to Chair of the Department of Visual Arts, the Gallery Coordinator oversees the planning, coordination, installation, and delivery of exhibitions and related programming for the Department of Visual Arts’ Visual Arts Gallery. Serving as both an administrative and curatorial resource, the role supports the gallery’s function as a hub for teaching and learning, professional development, and community connection aligned with the academic mission of the Department of Visual Arts.


The position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the gallery, including exhibition and event coordination, communications, outreach initiatives, and administrative processes. Working collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, visiting artists, curators and scholars, university partners, and community organizations, the incumbent facilitates the development and delivery of exhibitions and programming that fosters creative research, experiential and interdisciplinary learning, curatorial and professional practice opportunities for students, and community connection.


The role supervises student assistants and contract preparators, assists with budget tracking, and supports promotional activities through exhibition materials, website content, social media, and related communications. This position also coordinates technical and facilities support for gallery activities through appropriate roles.

The Gallery Coordinator will:

  • Manage all aspects of the operation of the Visual Arts Gallery in alignment with the mission and mandate of the gallery, and departmental policy;
  • Plan and develop annual gallery programming (exhibitions, receptions, events, etc.) in consultation with the Gallery Committee;
  • Develop installation timelines and production schedules aligned with the annual gallery programming, coordinating with technical and facilities staff when needed;
  • Direct the curatorial vision, and where applicable support the curatorial vision of students, faculty, guest artists, and guest curators;
  • Translate curatorial vision into spatial, technical and material installation strategies;
  • Implement accessibility and visitor engagement considerations in gallery layout, including signage placement and text;
  • Oversee end-to-end planning, logistics and execution of exhibition receptions and gallery-related events;
  • Act as a primary liaison for the gallery both internally and externally (students, staff, faculty, university departments, building management, security, artists, curators, external community partners, etc.);
  • Coordinate site planning, technical requirements, and manage outreach for off-site/public art opportunities, installations, and exhibitions for students and the Department;

Key Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in a gallery setting, as preparator, curatorial assistant or curator (exhibition coordination, curation, installation);
  • Expanded knowledge of contemporary exhibition methodologies and interdisciplinary art practices;
  • Superior problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot unexpected technical or spatial challenges during exhibition installation;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, capacity to support and guide individuals, and navigate challenges with a high degree of professionalism;
  • Proficiency with project management and supervising a team;
  • Excellent organizational skills, time management, and capacity to meet deadlines;
  • Skilled in writing, content creation, promotion, marketing, and public outreach;
  • Proven capability in data and collections management;


Preferred or Asset Skills:

  • Graduate Degree in Art History, Curatorial Studies, Fine Arts, Museum Studies or related field;
  • Valid driver’s license in good standing;
  • Demonstrated leadership experience;

Salary and Total Rewards:

  • Job Grade I, Salary Scale ($52, - 84,;
  • Target Hiring Range: $52, - 53,*
