Job description
Fire Alarm & Sprinkler Systems Estimator

Location: Calgary, AB

Build Safer Buildings. Help Win Great Projects.

REAL-R is seeking an experienced Estimator who understands commercial fire protection systems and enjoys turning drawings, specifications, and site requirements into accurate, competitive project estimates for a well-established fire protection service company that specializes in the design, installation, inspection, and maintenance of fire alarm and sprinkler systems for commercial buildings throughout Alberta.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong technical background in fire alarm and/or sprinkler systems who wants to play a key role in securing projects and supporting the company's continued growth.

The Role

As the Fire Alarm & Sprinkler Systems Estimator, you will be responsible for reviewing construction documents, determining project requirements, preparing detailed estimates, and supporting the sales and project teams through the tender process.

You will work closely with project managers, designers, suppliers, and customers to ensure estimates are accurate, competitive, and aligned with project scope.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review architectural, mechanical, electrical, and fire protection drawings and specifications.

  • Perform detailed quantity take-offs for fire alarm and sprinkler systems.

  • Develop complete cost estimates including labour, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and other project costs.

  • Prepare competitive bid submissions for commercial construction projects.

  • Obtain and evaluate pricing from suppliers and subcontractors.

  • Identify scope gaps, exclusions, risks, and opportunities within tender documents.

  • Clarify project requirements through RFIs when necessary.

  • Work with project managers and operations teams to ensure a smooth transition from awarded projects to execution.

  • Maintain accurate estimating files, pricing databases, and historical project information.

  • Stay current with applicable building codes, fire codes, NFPA standards, and industry practices.

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with general contractors, consultants, and suppliers.

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will bring a combination of technical fire protection knowledge, attention to detail, and commercial awareness.

Required Qualifications
  • 3–5+ years of experience estimating, designing, installing, or managing commercial fire alarm and/or sprinkler systems.

  • Strong understanding of commercial construction practices.

  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.

  • Excellent mathematical and analytical skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and estimating software.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience estimating both fire alarm and sprinkler systems.

  • Knowledge of NFPA standards and Alberta Building and Fire Codes.

  • Fire protection technician, sprinkler fitter, or electrical trade background.

  • Experience working with general contractors on commercial construction projects.

Personal Attributes

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Detail-oriented and thorough.

  • Comfortable digging into drawings to identify potential issues before they become problems.

  • Collaborative and easy to work with.

  • Able to balance accuracy with the need to meet tender deadlines.

  • Commercially minded, with an understanding of how estimates contribute to profitable projects.

  • Proactive, dependable, and committed to delivering high-quality work.

What You'll Receive
  • Competitive salary based on experience.

  • Opportunities for professional development and continued training.

  • A supportive, team-oriented work environment.

  • The opportunity to work on a wide variety of commercial projects throughout Alberta.

  • Long-term career growth with a respected fire protection contractor.

If you have a strong background in commercial fire alarm or sprinkler systems and enjoy the challenge of developing accurate, competitive estimates, we'd like to hear from you. Apply today to explore this opportunity.
