Job description

Requisition ID: 258906

Join a purpose driven winning team, committed to results, in an inclusive and high-performing culture.

We are looking for a Software Developer to join our microservices team in Scotia Digital to help build the next generation of microservices for Scotiabank. This is an exciting opportunity to work on modern, cloud native services that power the Mobile app and website, while growing your skills in a fast paced, collaborative environment.

As a Software Developer, you will contribute to all aspects of the software delivery lifecycle, working closely with senior developers, architects, and the Scrum team to design, build, test, and maintain high quality services. You will have opportunities to work on complex features, enhance existing systems, and participate in research and development initiatives as part of the team.

If you are a software engineer with a strong developer focused mindset, a keen interest in microservices and security, and enjoy learning in a fast moving environment — this role is for you!

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

  • Contribute to development activities within the Scrum team, supporting sprint objectives and project milestones.
  • Write well‑designed, testable, and efficient code using best software development practices.
  • Assist in gathering and refining technical requirements and specifications.
  • Collaborate with the Scrum team to plan work, deliver features successfully, and raise risks or issues when identified.
  • Contribute to design and code reviews to ensure quality, consistency, and maintainability.
  • Support testing activities, including unit, integration, and functional testing.
  • Participate in documentation of system changes, technical designs, and operational guidelines as required.
  • Assist with post‑implementation reviews to identify improvements and learning opportunities.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture apply to day‑to‑day development activities and decisions.
  • Contribute positively to a high‑performance, inclusive, and collaborative team environment.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We’d love to work with you if you have:

  • University or College Degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience developing enterprise or cloud‑native applications.
  • Experience or working knowledge of Java‑based microservices and distributed systems.
  • Exposure to technologies such as Java 8+, Spring Boot, JUnit, Maven/Gradle, Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Familiarity with version control tools such as Git, SVN, or Bitbucket.
  • Understanding of Agile principles and experience working in Agile/Scrum teams.
  • Basic familiarity with software security and code quality tools (e.g., BlackDuck, Fortify, SonarQube) is an asset.
  • Exposure to messaging technologies such as Kafka, ActiveMQ, or Azure Service Bus, and databases (RDBMS, NoSQL, Redis) is an asset.
  • Good problem‑solving skills and willingness to learn new technologies.
  • Ability to work effectively with team members across varying levels of experience.
  • A passion for software development and continuous improvement.

What's in it for you?

  • Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Allyship - We strive to create an inclusive culture where every employee is empowered to reach their fullest potential, respected for who they are, and are embraced through bias-free practices and inclusive values across Scotiabank.
