Job description

Arbutus Medical is a rapidly growing medical device venture developing a portfolio of procedure kits to  streamline surgery “outside the OR”, starting with orthopaedic trauma procedures in the ER.

We are a 9-person production and engineering team seeking a Supply Chain Lead to own and execute the full supply chain lifecycle. Executing everything from purchasing and supplier management through logistics, inventory flow, and systems development, ensuring materials and products move reliably, efficiently, and cost-effectively as we scale.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary $65,000-$75,000
  • An exciting opportunity to get in at the ground floor of a growing venture
  • Flexible working hours
  • Extended health benefits
  • Professional development funding (including APICS certification support if desired)
  • A purpose-driven workplace with passionate teammates who want to help patients and make a positive difference in the world

Detailed Role Description

The Supply Chain Lead is responsible for ensuring material availability and operational flow as Arbutus scales. You will own the end-to-end execution of purchasing, logistics coordination, inventory planning, supplier accountability, and process improvement. This is a highly hands-on role with day-to-day activities ranging from creating purchase orders, following up with suppliers, reconciling invoices, monitoring deliveries, supporting shipping and packing when needed, and ensuring inventory data integrity across systems.

You will work closely with Product, Production, Finance, and Leadership to ensure that materials arrive on time, inventory is accurate, and logistics are optimized. As we grow, this role will help evaluate 3PL strategy, optimize freight costs, strengthen supplier stability, and build scalable operational playbooks.

Success in this role means creating stability and predictability in supply chain operations. Ensuring we always have what we need, when we need it and at the right cost. Leading the function of supply chain will also evolve to building and implementing processes that will support our next stage of growth.

Key Responsibilities

Supply Chain Execution

  • Own the full supply chain lifecycle from supplier purchase through customer delivery
  • Lead purchasing execution, including RFQs, quotation analysis, supplier selection support, and PO creation
  • Monitor supplier lead times, delivery performance, and inbound material flow
  • Coordinate inbound and outbound logistics, including freight optimization and carrier management
  • Ensure supply continuity by proactively planning against sales forecasts and production schedules
  • Support shipping and packing activities when operational demand requires
  • Vendor & Supplier Management

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for suppliers, logistics partners, and 3PL providers
  • Maintain strong commercial relationships while holding vendors accountable to cost, quality, and delivery expectations
  • Identify and onboard new suppliers to mitigate risk and improve cost structure
  • Negotiate supplier terms, freight rates, and service agreements
  • Support potential 3PL evaluation and transition planning in the future if needed
  • Inventory, Planning & Operations

  • Oversee inventory accuracy, receiving, material tracking, and inter-site coordination
  • Lead physical inventory counts and reconciliation processes
  • Monitor planning spreadsheets and ERP / MRP data to ensure appropriate PO timing and quantity
  • Maintain high standards of data integrity across inventory and purchasing workflows
  • Partner with production to ensure materials are available to support manufacturing schedules
  • Collaborate with finance to resolve invoice discrepancies and support accurate reporting
  • Systems & Process Improvement

  • Build and document SOPs, process flows, and operational playbooks
  • Improve integration between sales forecasts (Google Sheets), ERP data (Dear), and purchasing execution
  • Develop KPI tracking for on-time delivery, inventory accuracy, supplier performance, and cost management
  • Reduce manual work and increase visibility across supply chain operations
  • Monitor market and supply chain trends that may impact pricing or risk
  • Requirements

  • 5–8+ years of progressive experience in supply chain, purchasing, logistics, or manufacturing operations
  • Experience in a small-to-mid-sized manufacturing environment (high ownership, lean team) strongly preferred
  • Direct experience supporting internal manufacturing schedules with on-time material flow
  • Experience in independently owning supply chain execution and improvement initiatives
  • Experience shipping moderate-to-high volumes of units and managing operational scale
  • Technical Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Logistics, Business, Commerce, or related field
  • Advanced Excel capability (including VLOOKUPs and planning models)
  • Experience working within ERP / MRP systems (Dear or similar preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience planning purchase timing using spreadsheets and demand forecasting
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 or ISO 13485 quality systems (medical device experience strongly preferred)

    Desired Capabilities and Traits

  • High ownership operator — takes full responsibility for keeping operations running smoothly
  • Detail-oriented and data-driven — comfortable reconciling inventory, reviewing spreadsheets, and validating accuracy

  • Commercially sound — understands cost structures, supplier trade-offs, and negotiation dynamic
  • Process builder — excited to document, refine, and scale systems
  • Calm under pressure — capable of solving problems in time-sensitive production environments
  • Collaborative communicator — works effectively across product, production, and finance
  • Benefits

    What We Offer

  • Competitive salary $65,000-$75,000
  • An exciting opportunity to get in at the ground floor of a growing venture
  • Flexible working hours
  • Extended health benefits
  • Professional development funding (including APICS certification support if desired)
  • A purpose-driven workplace with passionate teammates who want to help patients and make a positive difference in the world
  • Why this role, and why now?

Arbutus Medical is reinventing how surgery is done Outside the OR™,  starting within the ER, where surgeons struggle with 1M+ bedside procedures a year due to outdated workflows. We’re building the market’s first portfolio of procedure kit “grab bags” to streamline these procedures, and have launched two FDA-cleared products to date, TrakPak® (to streamline bedside skeletal traction) and SwiftKit™ (to streamline treatment of fingertip trauma). These are two truly differentiated products that solve practical workflow problems, saving up to 45 min / patient, helping hospitals win back resources and keep staff happy, while improving quality of patient care. We are already in 75+ U.S. hospitals (including more than 20% of all Level 1 Trauma Centers), have a high double-digit growth rate, and are backed by a deep roster of Canadian healthtech investors. Entering 2026, we are ready to accelerate product development and scale up US sales and medical education to set a new standard of care in our target procedures.

Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Arbutus Medical is committed to making diversity, equity, and inclusion part of everything we do, from how we build our products to how we build our workforce. If this resonates with you, please apply – even if you don’t feel like you “check all the boxes.” Also, let us know if we can provide any specific accessibility considerations throughout the interview and candidate screening process.
