This is a temporary 18 month position at the Richmond office.

Where you'll work

WorkSafeBC offers a hybrid work model that combines the convenience of working remotely with the dynamism of working in an office, based on the operational needs of the position. In this role, you'll work primarily from your B.C. home and occasionally in our Richmond office.

As a Purchasing Officer You Will

  • Use verbal and written communication skills to interact with internal and external clients.
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate the supply of materials and services for assigned projects.
  • Recommend, develop, and implement strategic buying methods to reduce purchasing costs.

We're Looking For Someone Who Can

  • Prepare and present technical information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, to audiences with varying levels of understanding.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with co‑workers, clients, external service providers, management, and work teams in a confident, objective, and diplomatic manner.
  • Analyze information, anticipate problems or opportunities, set priorities, evaluate and negotiate alternative solutions, and make appropriate decisions or recommendations.
  • Apply standard purchasing principles, policies, and procedures.
  • Your Background and Experience

Completion of Year 1 of the Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) program or working toward or holding one of the following designations :

  • Designation from the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (UK)
  • Designation from the Association for Supply Chain Management (ASCM) / American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS)
  • Certified Public Purchasing Officer Certificate (CPPO)
  • Certified Supply Chain Professional
  • International Association of Contract and Commercial Management (IACCM)
  • A minimum of 27 months of work experience in a clerk / administrative assistant type role in an office environment, with at least 12 months in a purchasing and / or supply chain environment.
  • We’ll consider equivalent combinations of education and experience.

    Important to Know

Before we can finalize any offer of employment, you must :

  • Successfully meet two different criminal record clearances; one of which meets the legal requirements under the Criminal Records Review Act to work with children and / or vulnerable adults.
  • Confirm you are legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • WorkSafeBC's COVID-19 Employee Mandatory Vaccine Policy (the "Policy") is suspended effective January 9, 2023, however we reserve the right to re‑implement it in response to changes in the public health landscape, including public health orders. We are committed to the protection, health, and safety of our employees and our Communicable Disease Prevention Program and related protocols remain in effect.

    Our Benefits

As a member of our team, you’ll have access to services and benefits that help you get the most out of work—and life.

  • Competitive salary, plus an extra 4% of your salary in lieu of benefits and 4% in lieu of vacation from the day you start.
  • After 1,820 hours (approximately 12 months) you switch to :

  • 3 weeks of vacation with regular increases based on years of service.
