Vanderwell is an Alberta, family-owned company operating in northern Alberta for more than 80 years. We have modern sawmill, planer mill, and pellet mill facilities, which produce dimensional lumber, wood pellets, shavings, and chips for wholesale customers.
We’re a major employer in the local region, we have more than 160 employees working throughout the operation -- mill production, sales & shipping, woodlands, truck and mobile equipment shops, and administration. Contract and part-time employees are also employed in maintenance, transportation, and seasonal activities.

The Opportunity
We are currently looking to hire a Quality Coordinator for our manufacturing facilities in Slave Lake, Alberta. Job duties include:
- Conducts daily Quality Control checks of all Sawmill and Planer mill stations
- Conducts package inspections to determine efficiency of Gradex
- Monitors and makes necessary adjustments to ensure wood is being correctly graded, sorted and packaged throughout the production process
- Keeps management informed at all times of product quality or potential issues
- Works closely with Comact to ensure Gradex performs to the highest standard to Quality Products
- Works closely with AFPA grading inspector to ensure quality checks are successful
- Maintains the HT Manual with changes noted, plus monitoring dry kiln schedules
Working Conditions:
- Exposed to noise, dust, falling debris, moving machinery, weather extremes, splinters, slipping and tripping hazards.
- Lifting heavy, awkward objects and climbing on equipment may be required.
- Required use of PPE appropriate for the task and working conditions.
Must have:
- A solid work ethic, be eager to learn, and be a team player
- A Bachelor of Science in Wood Product Processing or equivalent work experience
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in the lumber processing industry
- Sound mechanical knowledge and attention to detail
- Current AFPA grading certificate is an asset but not a requirement
- Candidates MUST either live in the local community or be willing to relocate
