Job description

The Opportunity

Our Energy subsector, a key component of WSP’s ERI (Energy, Resources and Industry) sector, supports clients from coast to coast. From small installations to multi‑phase integrated megaprojects, we support upstream, midstream, and downstream oil and gas activities and energy transition markets at all stages of the project lifecycle, anywhere in the world. We are focused on providing design, engineering and environmental services that contribute to climate adaptation and mitigation, sustain the use and protection of water and marine resources, protect and restore biodiversity, and support our clients as they transition to low‑carbon solutions. Our experts work together to offer our clients services that live up to our vision : to meet the highest standards in the industry and innovate to exceed them.

Job Description

  • A phenomenal collaborative culture and a workforce filled with genuinely good people who are doing humbly important work. Come find out for yourself what it’s like to be a part of our journey.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct process simulations using appropriate software to optimise system performance and efficiency, including modelling and predicting process behaviours using mathematical models and computer simulations.
  • Determine the appropriate sizes for equipment based on process requirements, preparing data sheets that detail the specifications and requirements of each piece of equipment.
  • Perform calculations to determine the optimal size for process lines, considering flow rate, pressure drop and temperature.
  • Prepare data sheets for instruments used in the process, including instrument specifications, operating conditions and maintenance requirements.
  • Develop Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) to represent the flow of materials through the process, including identifying major equipment, process conditions and flow rates.
  • Mark up Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) to reflect changes in the process or equipment, adding, removing or modifying symbols and labels as necessary.
  • Conduct studies to understand and improve the process, analysing process data, identifying bottlenecks and proposing solutions to improve efficiency and productivity.
  • Participate in Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies, identifying and evaluating potential hazards in the process and proposing measures to mitigate these risks.
  • Review drawings provided by vendors to ensure they meet process requirements, checking dimensions, materials and design details.
  • Majority of work will be task‑oriented; the engineer may be put in charge of smaller projects or assigned to a specific client as alliance support. On larger projects, support the Area Lead to complete tasks above.
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Chemical Engineering
  • Required minimum 5 years of experience in the oil and gas industry working as a process engineer – ideally with gas processing plant experience
  • P.Eng licensed
  • Enjoy working in a team environment in an intermediate role to develop your skills
  • Strong communication and report‑writing skills
  • Be organised and complete tasks with a focus on quality, schedule and budget
  • Salary

Salary range (in British Columbia) : $82,900 – $114,000. The final salary awarded for this role may vary from the above range based on several factors, including but not limited to relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance and business or organisational needs.
