The People and Organization Development division of People Strategies is responsible for the development of long-term strategy such as the People Plan, a holistic long-term plan that engages and supports employees to transform the SFU experience. This Office encompasses Learning and Development, Organizational Health and Well-Being, HR operations and administrative services and overall HR Strategic Business Partner Services team.
The Strategic Business Partner (SBP) Services team provides proactive HR support, working closely with leaders and their units to deeply understand their unique needs. As the primary point of contact for leaders across SFU, they offer a broad range of HR guidance and support, exercising sound judgment in recognizing when to engage specialized expertise from various HR Centers of Excellence.
About the Role
The Strategic HR Business Partner builds effective relationships and partnerships with Leaders in an assigned portfolio to strategically align the HR strategy with the individual needs of the business unit and the broader needs of the University. The role proactively supports organizational design and people practices, providing HR expertise on the resources required to meet business goals and objectives. The SBP supports business units in efforts to recruit and retain staff and drive employee engagement, integrating and encouraging best practices in HR. The role leads the planning, advising and facilitation of the delivery of HR programs and services to help meet the operational needs of business units and provide support to Leaders in the resolution of complex issues. The SBP develops, monitors and tracks key ‘people' metrics to gain valuable insights and support strategic decision making.
As the ideal candidate, you are passionate about strategic Human Resources and have experience providing context specific value-added advice to leaders to guide their approach to people strategies. You value and build successful relationships, and are known to act with integrity, diplomacy, and tact. You are an excellent communicator both written and verbal, and are able to convey information clearly and concisely to a variety of audiences. You are a resourceful problem-solver who is able to quickly adapt in rapidly evolving and ambiguous situations. You value the employee experience and appreciate the importance of creating a sense of belonging for all employees of SFU.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Human Resources or a related discipline a professional Human Resources designation (CPHR or CHRP) and eight years of related experience providing a full range of Human Resources services to a diverse client group and resolving issues in a complex, unionized environment.
- Expert knowledge of best practices in Human Resources.
- Excellent knowledge of multiple Human Resource disciplines, including organizational design, Compensation practices, employee and union relations, equity, diversity andinclusion and performance management.
- Excellent knowledge of B.C Employment Standards Act and other applicable federal and provincial legislation.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Excellent organizational, strategic planning and project management skills.
- Excellent decision-making skills.
- Excellent problem solving and analytical reasoning skills and judgment.

Additional Information
The pay range is the span between the minimum and maximum base salary for the position. The midpoint of the range is approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum and represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the pay range.
