Job description

About Canada Rocket Company

Canada Rocket Company is developing Canada's first medium-lift launch vehicle.

We are a team of veterans from SpaceX, Blue Origin, Rocket Lab, ArianeGroup, Pangea Propulsion, Tesla, MDA, and more, bringing over a century of combined launch and space systems experience back to Canada.

Our mission is to provide reliable, independent access to space for Canada and its allies in a rapidly expanding global market.

Our approach is defined by pragmatic engineering:

We utilize a single 725 kN engine that scales from light- to medium-lift via engine clustering. We lean on simple, proven technologies to reach orbit faster, avoiding the pitfalls of complex or novel designs. We test early and often, catching problems on the bench instead of at the pad.

Backed by over $20M in funding secured within our first four months, including the largest all-Canadian seed round in the sector and an $8.3M Department of National Defence grant, we are moving with the speed and institutional backing required to meet Canada’s orbital launch needs.

About the role

Canada Rocket Company is building sovereign launch capability for Canada. As our first Strategy & Operations Co-op, you will work directly with the Chief Financial Officer across finance, strategy, technology, and business operations — the four functions that determine how fast the engineering team can move.

This is not a shadowing placement. Much of what you will build does not exist yet, and it will be used.

What you'll do

Finance

Support the development of the enterprise financial model — driver-based, and used to allocate capital Run the financial planning and analysis cycle: budget versus actual by program, variance analysis, forecast updates Support capital planning and project controls across facility, test, and long-lead hardware programs

Strategy

Size the addressable market and build the capture and revenue models behind it Support proposals, grant submissions, and go-to-market strategy Build build-versus-buy analyses and product lifecycle techno-economic models

Technology & Business Operations

Help deploy AI-native business processes across the company — pathfinding new ways of working that make every person here measurably more effective Design and build agentic workflows that carry real work end to end, connect the systems and data they run on, and scale what proves out from one team to the whole company Run program and project management for commercial initiatives, establish the business rhythms that keep them moving, and build the procurement processes behind supply chain resilience

Qualifications

Required

Enrolled in a co-op or internship program at the undergraduate level or above, in business, commerce, economics, business technology management, or engineering At least one prior completed internship or co-op work term. This role is not suited to a first work term Fluency with economic and financial modeling principles, and the ability to apply them to produce work products quickly — in Excel and/or AI-assisted, structured code-based models such as Python. Prior coding ability is not required Systems thinking: the ability to see how processes, data, and decisions connect across an organization rather than treating them in isolation Working understanding of data structures and database architectures, and how business systems store, relate, and exchange information Fluent with AI tools, and able to apply them to redesign how work is done rather than only to accelerate existing tasks Rigour and accuracy in work carrying financial, contractual, and external consequence, combined with the ability to work independently where established process does not yet exist

Nice To Have

Enrolled at the graduate level — MBA, MFin, MSc, or equivalent Coursework or experience in financial modeling, techno-economic analysis, corporate finance, or procurement Demonstrated experience building with AI: agents, automations, or end-to-end workflows Interest in aerospace or defence. No space-industry experience required

Employment eligibility

Canada Rocket Company is registered under Canada's Controlled Goods Program (CGP), administered by Public Services and Procurement Canada, and this role requires access to controlled goods and controlled technical data. It is a condition of employment that you are eligible for, obtain, and maintain the security assessment required under the CGP. Any offer of employment is contingent on the successful completion of that assessment.

Term and logistics

Canada Rocket Company keeps this role staffed year-round with one student at a time. A placement runs four, eight, or twelve months depending on what your program permits, full-time at a minimum of 37.5 hours per week and up to 40. The specific term and dates for this posting are set out in the posting details on your institution's portal.

This is an on-site role at our Toronto facility, five days per week; it is not a hybrid or remote position, and Canada Rocket Company does not fund housing or relocation costs for this placement.

Compensation is $25.00 to $30.00 per hour for undergraduate students, and $30.00 to $40.00 per hour for graduate students.

Canada Rocket Company is an equal-opportunity employer. Accommodations are available on request at any stage of the recruitment process.
