Job description

We are seeking a highly accomplished Senior Application Support / Systems Engineer - GCP for an enterprise-level contract opportunity based in Toronto. In this role, you will take on a premier application reliability, cloud systems engineering, and incident response capacity, specializing in maintaining application health, configuring advanced observability solutions, and managing production environments.

As a senior systems engineer, you will bridge the gap between software development, cloud infrastructure, and operational reliability. Operating within a hybrid work model in Toronto, you will monitor distributed systems, configure real-time alerting, troubleshoot performance and latency bottlenecks, and manage Kubernetes-based microservices architectures. This position demands a technical systems authority with deep Google Cloud Platform (GCP) expertise, strong CI/CD experience, and a proven track record of maintaining high availability across high-volume production platforms.

Location: Toronto, ON

Assignment Type: Hybrid (3 days per week onsite, with occasional local client visits)

Contract Duration: 6-month contract

Advantages
Advanced Cloud Stack: Direct hands-on engineering across Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE).

Enterprise Observability: Implement and manage robust monitoring frameworks using Grafana, Prometheus, Datadog, and Dynatrace.

Production Operations: Take ownership of critical incident management, distributed tracing, and high-volume platform availability.

Balanced Hybrid Model: Enjoy a flexible work arrangement combining collaborative onsite teamwork in Toronto with remote flexibility.

Responsibilities
Monitor, maintain, and optimize application health and performance across cloud-native, distributed systems.

Configure, refine, and manage enterprise observability, alerting, and telemetry frameworks to detect and prevent system anomalies.

Lead production incident management, triaging complex technical issues, performing root-cause analysis, and implementing long-term remediation.

Troubleshoot performance, latency, and scalability bottlenecks across microservices architectures and containerized applications.

Deploy, maintain, and support Kubernetes-based environments (GKE) to ensure application resilience and continuous uptime.

Support continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines utilizing Jenkins for seamless production releases.

Utilize distributed tracing and log analytics platforms to monitor application transactions and system dependencies.

Collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering, infrastructure, and development teams to drive operational readiness and reliability best practices.

Maintain comprehensive technical documentation, operational runbooks, and incident post-mortem reports.

Qualifications
Core Technical & Systems Engineering Requirements
Cloud Platform Mastery: Strong, mandatory hands-on systems engineering experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

Kubernetes Orchestration: Direct experience managing, supporting, and troubleshooting containerized environments using Kubernetes / GKE.

Observability & Telemetry Tooling: Extensive experience configuring and managing monitoring tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Datadog, Dynatrace, or Splunk.

CI/CD & Deployment Experience: Practical experience with production deployment processes and continuous delivery pipelines using Jenkins.

Production Incident Management: Proven track record in production support, distributed tracing, incident triage, and latency troubleshooting across complex enterprise applications.

Preferred Experience & Assets
Retail / eCommerce Context: Prior experience supporting large-scale, high-traffic retail or eCommerce platforms is a strong asset.

Microservices Architecture: In-depth understanding of distributed microservices design principles and cloud networking.

Soft Skills & Delivery Attributes
Analytical Troubleshooting: Superior problem-solving capabilities to diagnose and resolve complex distributed system failures under pressure.

Communication & Collaboration: Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively across engineering leads, technical teams, and external partners.
