TEACHER OF THE DEAF

Two - 1.0 Replacement position(s) - Ernest C. Drury School for the Deaf – Elementary

Positions are available September 1, 2026

(Contracts rated under the Provincial Schools Authority)

We are seeking two passionate Elementary Teachers to join our Ernest C. Drury School for the Deaf in Milton. This is a unique opportunity to work in a bilingual (ASL/English), student-centered environment where every day you help remove barriers and unlock potential. At the Provincial and Demonstration Schools Branch, you will be part of a caring, purpose-driven community that values inclusion, collaboration, and excellence. The following positions are available:

  • Competition # PDSB26-091: Teacher of the Deaf, Two 1.0 Replacement positions, Ernest C. Drury School for the Deaf, Elementary program, Milton
  • ¨Positions are available for the 2026/2027 school year

What we are looking for:

Qualifications:

  • Valid Certificate of Registration and Qualifications from the Ontario College of Teachers;
  • Deaf Specialist/Teaching Students Who Are Deaf or Hard of Hearing or currently engaged in completing the requirements for the specialist qualification (NOTE: PDSB will consider teacher candidates who are currently engaged in completing the requirements for the specialist qualification and/or who express a willingness to obtain);
  • Primary/Junior or Junior/Intermediate Division qualifications required.

    Abilities:

    Demonstrated experience teaching Deaf/hard of hearing students in academic programs and/or programs for students with multiple exceptionalities;

  • Ability to develop and modify lesson plans, and to create IEP’s to effectively teach Deaf students;
  • An in-depth knowledge of the principles of teaching Deaf students;
  • Ability to effectively manage a classroom and students using a variety of behavioural management strategies;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including proficiency in English and American Sign Language (ASL);
  • Ability to apply an in-depth knowledge of bilingual-biliteracy-bicultural education for Deaf students;
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team and work with students with multiple exceptionalities.
