Job descriptionBachelor degree in mechanical engineering, mechatronics engineering, or related discipline EIT with EGBC or eligible for registration 0 to 5 years of experience in mechanical and electro-mechanical design Experience with CAD modelling (Solidworks preferred). FEA experience an asset Experience with electro-mechanical systems an asset, including automation, control systems, and instrumentation Strong problem solving skills combined with sound engineering judgment Excellent written and verbal communication skills Can work independently and in a collaborative team environment EIT certification (or eligibility for registration under EGBC) Ability to travel up to 20% of the time to various national and international locations Ability to work evenings and weekends as required
Overview
This position is primarily responsible for supporting all phases of the design and development of custom mechanical and electro-mechanical hardware for LB Foster’s friction management systems including concept, design, verification, validation, manufacture, and systems implementation. The individual is also responsible for working with the engineering team to ensure design solutions meet the project and customer requirements and specifications.
Responsibilities
- Support the development conceptual and detailed designs of custom mechanical and electro-mechanical systems for train-mounted applications
- Support design validation and verification using FEA modelling, prototyping, and field assessment
- Generate manufacturing drawings
- Conduct experiments, and perform data acquisition and analysis
- Support manufacturing and conduct QA
- Generate trial plans, reports, manuals, and other documents
- Participate in trials, installations, and tests of equipment in the field
