Job description

Req ID:520395

At Alstom, we understand transport networks and what moves people. From high-speed trains, metros, monorails, and trams, to turnkey systems, services, infrastructure, signalling and digital mobility, we offer our diverse customers the broadest portfolio in the industry. Every day, more than 80 000 colleagues lead the way to greener and smarter mobility worldwide, connecting cities as we reduce carbon and replace cars.

Could you be the full-time General Manager in Etobicoke, Ontario we’re looking for?
This job posting represents an existing vacancy.

Your future role

Take on a new challenge and apply your dynamic leadership and operational expertise in a cutting-edge field. You’ll work alongside a collaborative, driven, and innovative team.

You'll play a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless and cost-effective maintenance operations of GO Transit and UP Express fleets, while driving continuous improvement and efficiencies. Day-to-day, you’ll work closely with cross-functional teams, including Maintenance, Operations, and GO Transit, oversee performance reports, and ensure compliance with corporate policies and industry regulations. You'll also lead initiatives to improve safety, training, and operational excellence.

You’ll specifically take care of fostering cooperative initiatives between Operations and Maintenance, but also spearheading the transition toward 15-minute service on all rail corridors.

We’ll look to you for:

  • Directly managing the Maintenance team for GO Transit and UP Express fleets, overseeing approximately 855 employees.

  • Ensuring safe, prompt, and courteous service in accordance with corporate policies, government regulations, and Canadian Rail Operating Rules.

  • Overseeing train maintenance performance reports and coordinating with host railways to ensure daily operational performance.

  • Developing and maintaining training/refresher programs to ensure high levels of competence among maintenance teams.

  • Conducting operational audits and ensuring proper reporting and investigation of incidents, with preventive actions implemented.

  • Supervising and coordinating the work activities of the management team to optimize efficiency.

  • Maintaining financial records, controlling expenditures, and preparing financial and administrative reports.

  • Designing and implementing new policies and procedures as needed.

  • Acting as a liaison between the site and the corporation.

All about you

We value passion and attitude over experience. That’s why we don’t expect you to have every single skill. Instead, we’ve listed some that we think will help you succeed and grow in this role:

  • CROR qualification or certification in Canadian Rail Operating Rules (considered an asset).

  • 10+ years of management responsibility in a manufacturing or maintenance environment.

  • Strong working knowledge of railroad operating rules and regulations.

  • Locomotive Engineer qualification (considered an asset).

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse disciplines and levels, both internally and externally.

  • Knowledge of budgetary requirements and long-range planning.

  • Sound business judgment and the ability to influence at all levels.

  • Strong interpersonal skills for training and coaching activities.

  • Proficiency in MS Office applications.

Things you’ll enjoy Join us on a life-long transformative journey – the rail industry is here to stay, so you can grow and develop new skills and experiences throughout your career. You’ll also:

  • Enjoy stability, challenges, and a long-term career free from boring daily routines.

  • Work with innovative safety and performance standards in rail maintenance.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and supportive colleagues.

  • Contribute to transformative projects that shape the future of mobility.

  • Utilise our flexible and inclusive working environment.

  • Steer your career in whatever direction you choose across functions and countries.

  • Benefit from our investment in your development, through award-winning learning opportunities.

  • Progress towards leadership roles within Alstom’s global network.

  • Enjoy a comprehensive and competitive reward package, including life, medical, and pension benefits.

You don’t need to be a train enthusiast to thrive with us. We guarantee that when you step onto one of our trains with your friends or family, you’ll be proud. If you’re up for the challenge, we’d love to hear from you!

Compensation The expected compensation for this role is $190,000 to $210,000, based on experience and qualifications. Final compensation will be based on skills, experience, and internal equity.
