The OpportunityMosaic is seeking an Area Planner to work out of our Campbell River office on Vancouver Island, British Columbia.

The RoleReporting to the Planning Operations Manager, the Area Planner is responsible for planning harvesting and road construction within an assigned area, and ensuring field layout, surveying, mapping, design, and permitting activities are effectively managed. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Planning and directing operations projects and activities in a safe and efficient manner;
  • Managing field layout, surveying, mapping, and design activities in collaboration with Contract Engineers and Contract Managers;
  • Participating in field audits of contract planning work, conducting cutblock and road layout, mentoring field staff, and resolving issues;
  • Delivering road and harvest plans to the Contract Manager and supporting safe execution;
  • Preparing and submitting permit applications for harvesting and road-building activities;
  • Working with First Nations to ensure operational activities respect cultural values;
  • Coordinating the design, installation, inspection, and maintenance of bridges;
  • Supporting contract management activities, including contract development, rate discussions, and issue resolution; and
  • Contributing to the implementation of area operations projects and initiatives.

What We’re Seeking:

  • RFT or RPF eligibility or accreditation with the Association of BC Forest Professionals (ABCFP);
  • Technical diploma in Forestry or equivalent;
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s licence or equivalent;
  • Minimum 5 years of forest engineering experience (coastal experience considered an asset);
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and forestry-related tools such as ROADENG, GIS, LiDAR, GPS, and ArcMap (or similar applications);
  • Demonstrated experience in cutblock layout and timber harvesting systems;
  • Working knowledge of applicable regulations, legislation, and certification systems (e.g., ISO 14001, SFI);
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to navigate difficult forest terrain and road construction sites on a regular basis; and
  • Ability to self-direct and effectively organize, plan and prioritize resources.

Compensation
The annual salary range for this position is $88,000 to $110,000. Individual compensation is commensurate with skill, relevant experience, and education.
