Job description

Requisition ID: 257928

Join a purpose driven winning team, committed to results, in an inclusive and high-performing culture.

The Senior Manager, Development – Data Engineering will provide strategic and hands‑on leadership within Scotiabank’s Data & AI Technology team. This role is accountable for leading and delivering enterprise‑scale data platforms solutions, with a strong emphasis on Azure and Databricks. You will be responsible for driving successful delivery of large, complex programs while ensuring engineering excellence, platform stability, and alignment to enterprise architecture and governance standards.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

Leadership & Delivery

  • Lead and manage the delivery of large, complex, enterprise‑level initiatives on Azure Databricks Data platform.
  • Own end‑to‑end delivery outcomes including scope, timelines, quality, and risk management
  • Partner with Architecture, Platform, Security, and Business stakeholders to deliver scalable and resilient data solutions
  • Drive execution across multiple concurrent projects, balancing strategic priorities and delivery commitments

Technical & Platform Leadership

  • Provide technical leadership for Azure Databricks‑based data platforms, including Spark workloads and Delta Lake architectures
  • Oversee the design and implementation of data ingestion, transformation, and analytics pipelines for new use cases to be onboarded on the platform.
  • Ensure solutions align with data architecture standards, cloud best practices, and performance expectations
  • Promote reuse of common patterns, frameworks, and platform capabilities across the organization
  • Establish and enforce engineering best practices, including code quality, CI/CD, testing, and documentation
  • Drive continuous improvement across delivery velocity, platform reliability, and operational maturity

Risk, Governance & Operations

  • Ensure data solutions comply with security, privacy, and regulatory requirements
  • Partner with risk, audit, and compliance teams to support governance activities
  • Manage operational health, availability, and ongoing optimization of data platforms

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • 10+ years of experience in data engineering, software development, or data platform roles
  • 5+ years of experience leading delivery teams in a manager or senior manager capacity
  • Strong hands‑on and leadership experience with Azure Databricks (Spark, Delta Lake, performance tuning)
  • Deep experience with Azure data technologies (e.g., ADLS, Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Event Hubs or equivalents)
  • Strong understanding of data architecture, ETL/ELT patterns, data modeling, and data quality frameworks
  • Proven track record delivering large‑scale, multi‑team, enterprise programs
  • Solid experience managing delivery in complex, regulated environments
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at senior levels

Nice to Have

  • Experience in financial services or highly regulated industries
  • Exposure to AI/ML platforms, advanced analytics, or real‑time data processing
  • Experience with cloud migration, platform modernization, or legacy system decommissioning
  • Familiarity with Agile, DevOps, and DataOps practices
