The Volunteer’s Role

Are you passionate about teacher development and creating lasting educational impact? Join Cuso International as a volunteer with a Mining Technology Center (CETEMIN), Peru's leading technical education institution for the mining sector.

Working alongside local educators, you will help strengthen teaching practices, develop innovative training programs, and build sustainable professional development systems that will empower instructors and benefit future generations of skilled professionals.

This is a unique opportunity to share your expertise, experience Peru's vibrant culture, and contribute to inclusive, high-quality technical education that supports sustainable economic development. Be part of a meaningful international volunteer experience, your knowledge can help shape the future of technical education in Peru.

As a volunteer, you will:

  • Conduct a comprehensive assessment of instructors’ pedagogical competencies through classroom observations, interviews, review of institutional tools, analysis of academic indicators, teacher evaluation results, and student feedback.
  • Design and implement a training program: Develop pedagogical training modules based on active methodologies, competency-based learning, and best practices in technical education.
  • Pedagogical support for instructors: Conduct classroom observation visits, provide constructive feedback, and develop individualized improvement plans for each instructor.
  • Create pedagogical performance evaluation tools (rubrics, checklists, observation records) aligned with CETEMIN’s institutional standards.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Pedagogy, Educational Psychology, Educational Sciences, or a closely related field.

Essential Background:

  • Proven background in teacher training, adult education, or faculty development.
  • Demonstrated experience in course design, curriculum development, or instructional materials creation.
  • Strong skills in educational coaching, classroom observation, and mentoring.
  • Proficiency in writing frameworks, technical reports, and assessment criteria.
  • Enthusiasm for cross-cultural collaboration, technical education, and international development.

Volunteer Support and Requirements

Support Package

Cuso International provides a comprehensive support package to ensure volunteers maintain a modest and healthy lifestyle aligned with local standards. This includes:

  • Monthly living allowance
  • Accommodation
  • Health insurance (including required vaccinations and antimalarial medication)
  • Round-trip airfare and visa/work permit costs
  • Pre-placement, in-country and reintegration training (along with access to self-directed materials and online resources)
  • Ongoing local support
  • Access to the Employee Assistance Program during and after placement

Selection and Screening

If you are shortlisted, you will need to:

  • Confirm passport or permanent resident details for travel
  • Provide two professional references and one personal reference
  • Complete a language assessment during the initial phone interview
  • Pass a police check and medical clearance before departure
  • Comply with anti-terrorism checks
  • Agree to uphold the Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) policy and Code of Conduct

Residency and Citizenship: Candidates are responsible for confirming how volunteering internationally may affect their citizenship or residency status. Canadian Permanent Residents should verify requirements with Immigration Canada before travel.
