Job Summary:
Reporting to the Regional Controller, Environmental Services Group with “dotted line” reporting to the Director of MBW Courier Inc. (“MBW”), this role will encompass full responsibility for the Finance Department of MBW and working with the management team to drive the growth of the business. Working collaboratively with the Terminal Managers, you will help achieve success of the company through the provision of analysis and commentary on business performance, as well as undertaking any necessary business case analysis to deliver commercial value across the organization. The Controller will be expected to travel throughout the year, in order to develop business relationships with the Terminal Managers and look for growth opportunities. You will also be responsible for supervising several direct reports.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for all day-to-day financial functions, supporting direction and development of the business and finance team
- Delivery of timely financial and management accounts, budgets and forecasts, supported by commentary and analysis as appropriate
- Proactively manage the internal control environment ensuring that the processes are robust and efficient
- Holding target and budget owners to account:Line by line understanding and scrutiny of revenues and expenses; andKPI definition and measurement including Target vs Actual.
- Partnering with Director, Regional Controller, and Terminal Managers to drive business performance by providing in-depth analysis and financial support for decision-making
- Pricing support and review to ensure adequate profitability
- Tender preparation and submissions of proposals and pricing analysis
- Costing new work with input from operational staff
- Provide financial support for new business development including acquisitions and other market development initiatives
- Evaluating all technological aspects of the business to ensure that we are proactive and an industry leader
- Leadership, development, and coaching with the finance / admin team
- Work with the Municipal Group of Companies Finance team to ensure compliance and reporting requirements are met
- Special projects and tasks as required
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience:
- CPA designation preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Excellent time management skills
- Ability to work in a team environment or independently as required
- Strong work ethic, and positive attitude
- Excellent MS Office skills, with strong working knowledge of Excel
- Experience working with Sage 300 is considered an asset
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
- Experience in transportation/courier industry considered an asset
