Job description

The Technical Specialist, UXO, supports clients within DCC and the Department of National Defence by assisting in the delivery of environmental programs aligned with the Environmental Sustainable Development Strategy, range and training area program, and related directives. The incumbent provides environmental support across medium-complexity projects, contributing to project delivery and ongoing management under established plans and guidance. The incumbent tracks project activities, supports the coordination of contracts, consultants, and stakeholders, and assists with reporting on project progress and results. The incumbent contributes to the development of creative solutions and supports the quality and timeliness of deliverables. Travel to other sites (such as Meaford) — at least twice per month—will be required to maintain strong alignment, collaboration, and connection with the broader team.

KEY AND PERIODIC ACTIVITIES
The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative but not all-inclusive:

Primary
• Support the development, implementation, and management of environmental programs and projects, including supporting budgetary and financial matters, allocating resources, and coordinating multi‑disciplinary consultants and specialists
• Provide project and program management support for medium-complexity initiatives, including supporting consultant and contractor activities, and reviewing and analyzing draft technical reports
• Determine work methodologies and technical approaches to resolve detailed and complex environmental issues
• Contribute to the development and implementation of corporate initiatives and organizational priorities
• Conduct field work related to site reconnaissance, and avoidance, escort, and quality assurance activities associated with unexploded explosive ordnance (UXO)
• Develop and maintain effective relationships within DCC and with industry, the Client-Partners and/or stakeholders
• Ensure quality standards are met and in line with corporate and Client-Partner expectations

SKILLS

General and Specific Knowledge
• Best practices, methods, trends and legislation in environmental science and environmental engineering
• Project and risk management principles

Formal Education and/or Certification(s) and Experience
• Minimum: college diploma in science, environmental or civil engineering, environmental management or environmental science or related field with approximately four years’ relevant experience, or the equivalent
Preferred: undergraduate degree in one of the above fields and/or specialized UXO training or relevant experience

Abilities
• Use applicable computer software and operating systems
• Write proposals, technical texts and supports
• Resolve complex problems with multiple stakeholders
• Apply project and risk management techniques

DEVELOPMENT AND LEADERSHIP
• Provide functional guidance and advice to employees and Client-Partners

WORKING CONDITIONS
• Typical office environment with routine travel
• Field work will be located on environmental or construction sites; incumbent will be required to wear basic personal protective equipment
