Job description

The Sir James Whitney School for the Deaf seeks candidates to work with deaf and hard of hearing children in a bilingual/bicultural setting.

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with individual and group programs
  • Supporting multi-challenged deaf children
  • Helping with physical care needs
  • Following specialized programs from other professionals
  • Assisting with program preparation

Required Qualifications:

  • Community College certificate and/or equivalent training, education and working experience in a child-related field
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification with AED
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and staff using American Sign Language (ASL)

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with deaf children and behavioural disorders
  • Knowledge of behaviour management programs
  • Understanding of special education needs
  • Strong analytical and observation abilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams

Position: 2 temporary seasonal positions (September to June, recurring), Belleville.
