Position Summary
Research Coordinator II, Research & Innovation
We are looking for a highly motivated Research Coordinator II to help with public health and policy evaluation research led by Dr. Daniel Myran the Cheesbrough Chair in Family and Community Medicine at North York General Hospital. They will join a productive team with a strong track record of impactful research and knowledge dissemination. The successful candidate will primarily support projects examining substance use and mental-health harms and evaluating the health impacts of public policy such as the legalization or non-medical cannabis or school cellphone bans. The position will provide opportunities allowing the candidate to be an author on multiple peer-reviewed publications and presentations per year.
The candidate will help coordinate multiple research projects alongside managing project-specific administration. They will be offered latitude in day-to-day work and granted opportunities, and professional development in relevant disciplines. Most of the work involves epidemiological researching using health administrative databases which capture all health care encounters in Ontario or Canada and other large routinely collected data.
On a practical level, you will
Assist investigators in the initiation of new research
• Assist investigator in the interpretation and implementation of study protocols
• Ongoing communication with collaborators
• Prepare REB submissions relative to the initiation and conduct of individual studies
• Represent North York General Hospital at protocol development and study initiation meetings
• Conduct interviews with research participants
• Collecting study data using standardized data extraction
• Prepare presentations, reports, abstracts, and manuscripts for peer-reviewed scientific journals.
• Oversee the ongoing collection, tabulation and analysis of study-related data and ongoing review and development of study databases
• Encourage a team approach within the group and promoting a cross-functional approach with other divisions within the hospital
• Ensure payments are forthcoming during conduct of study
• Ensure appropriate regulations are adhered to in the conduct of research
• Present research-related information including written study reports where necessary
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science, Master’s Degree with 3 years related research experience preferred
• Excellent attention to detail and proven ability to learn new skills
• Superior organizational skills to manage multiple projects in a timely manner and flexibility to adapt to changing workload
• Professionalism and self-motivation
• Good personal and program time/detail management skills
• Able to work independently and as part of a team
• Meticulous and capable of independent decision making with study data and knowledge of statistical analyses
• As applicable, computer skills including Word Perfect, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, database and statistical software
• A working understanding of research using routinely collected data (e.g., ICES, CIHI, or Statistics Canada)
