Job description

Our Story & Purpose:

We’re Vancity, a member-owned credit union built on the principles of inclusion and social justice. Since 1946, our relentless commitment to these values has helped us challenge the status quo and break down barriers. We’ve made bold commitments to become net-zero by 2040 across all mortgages and loans, and we’re actively pursuing strategies in Indigenous banking and financial resilience for our members.

As the largest private sector Living Wage Employer in Canada, we’re proud to be consistently recognized as one of the country’s Top Employers. If you’re ready to join our team of 2,300 diverse individuals, access competitive rewards and benefits, and be part of a greater movement - apply today!

Your Role in Supporting Our Members:

As a Director, Loan Syndications, you will lead Vancity’s national syndication strategy, supporting growth across commercial lending by originating business through VCIB across Canada and Vancity Credit Union within BC. You will develop and deepen strategic partner and client relationships while leading the structuring, underwriting, negotiation, and successful closing of complex syndicated transactions. Through your market expertise and strong commercial judgment, you will help build a robust origination pipeline, strengthen Vancity’s presence in the market, and contribute to sustainable revenue growth.

This is a Full-time, Permanent role based at Vancity Head Office or Toronto Head Office and will report directly to the Head, VCIB, Syndications & CRE. While this position provides a hybrid work arrangement, you will be expected to be on-site for events and business demands.

How You'll Make an Impact:

  • Leading the structuring and negotiation of high-value, complex deals and credit approvals, ensuring alignment with client needs
  • Overseeing credit approvals and driving pricing coordination to support successful financial close
  • Sourcing, maintaining, and deepening relationships with external partners to build a strong origination pipeline and roster of syndication partners
  • Strengthening the visibility of the Syndications team internally and externally
  • Collaborating with internal stakeholders to develop and implement processes and procedures that meet client expectations and support consistency across transactions
  • Representing Vancity at industry forums and conferences, leveraging insights on trends, competition, and emerging products to inform strategic decision-making
  • Engaging with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to align strategies, address client needs, and deliver holistic business solutions
  • Ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements, internal controls, and compliance policies across relationship management activities

What You’ll Bring to the Team:

  • Extensive knowledge of loan syndications, commercial lending, deal structuring, underwriting, and credit approval processes
  • Demonstrated experience originating business and building strategic relationships with lending partners, clients, and other external stakeholders
  • Strong commercial judgment with the ability to structure and negotiate complex, high-value transactions
  • Proven ability to collaborate with and influence senior leaders and cross-functional stakeholders

Extra Skills That Set You Apart:

  • Experience developing or executing syndication strategies across multiple markets or regions
  • Established relationships within the Canadian commercial lending or loan syndications market
  • Experience representing an organization at industry forums, conferences, or other external market events

You’ll Thrive Here If You Are:

  • Strategic – You connect market opportunities, partner needs, and organizational priorities to guide long-term syndication growth.
  • Relationship-Focused – You build trusted, lasting partnerships with clients, syndication partners, senior leaders, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Commercially Minded – You bring sound judgment to complex deals and balance client needs, financial outcomes, and risk considerations.
  • Collaborative – You work effectively across the enterprise to align stakeholders and deliver holistic business solutions.

We value lived experience, so if you are interested in this role, we encourage you to apply even if you feel your skills don't perfectly align with those listed.

What You’ll Earn:

This role offers a salary range of $141,900 to $183,600 per annum. The base pay offered may vary depending on factors such as relevant qualifications, skills, previous experience, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards package, employees may also be eligible for our annual incentive program, subject to program eligibility requirements.

Why You’ll Love Working Here:

A career at Vancity is more than just a job, you’re joining a tradition of change-makers who are creating lasting change for our communities. Beyond base pay, we offer a comprehensive total rewards package to ensure our employees are empowered to thrive:

  • Living Wage Employer: We’re the largest private-sector Living Wage Employer in Canada and consistently ranked among Canada’s Top Employers.
  • Customizable Benefits: Permanent employees receive flexible benefit packages that can be tailored annually to meet evolving needs.
  • Generous Vacation: New employees start with 3-4 weeks of vacation per year, with additional days earned over time.
  • Extra Stat Holidays: In addition to BC’s 11 statutory holidays, we offer 2 extra days, plus care days for personal or family illness.
  • Immediate Health Coverage: Health and dental benefits begin on your hire date, with three levels of coverage to choose from.
  • Defined Benefit Pension: Our retirement plan provides a guaranteed income for life, recognizing that retirement looks different for everyone.
