Job description
Reporting to the AVP of Canadian Banking Controllership, you will serve as a key member of the Finance Controllership team. Your primary focus will be ensuring the accuracy and integrity of loan ledgers and financial reporting systems. You will oversee monthly accounting activities, including loan accounting advisory, investigation of process issues, and complex reconciliations.
This role is ideal for a professional who enjoys "rolling up their sleeves" to tackle backlogs, performing deep-dive investigations into accounting discrepancies, and providing clear explanations of financial results to senior leadership.

Advantages
•High-Level Exposure: Opportunity to work closely with Senior Management and VPs, providing great internal visibility.
•Career Growth: Gain specialized exposure to loan accounting and controllership within a major financial institution.

Responsibilities
•Contract Review: Execute thorough accounting reviews of loan contracts to eliminate existing backlogs and ensure compliance.
•Financial Analysis: Investigate, analyze, and provide clear explanations for financial results and variances.
•Month-End Support: Lead month-end close activities, ensuring all loan accounting and reconciliations are completed accurately and on time.
•Process Improvement: Identify bottlenecks in current accounting workflows and implement improvements to increase efficiency.
•Advisory & Investigation: Act as a subject matter expert for loan accounting inquiries and resolve complex process issues as they arise.

Qualifications
•Experience: 5+ years of relevant accounting or financial analysis experience, specifically within financial service institutions.
•Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Excel (VBA, Macros, complex formulas) and familiarity with AI tools to enhance productivity.
•Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of IFRS accounting standards. Experience with ACBS or General Ledger applications (SAP, Oracle) is a significant asset.
•Education: University degree in Finance or Accounting. A CPA designation (or equivalent) is highly preferred.
•Soft Skills: Must be a driven, results-oriented problem solver with the ability to work independently and communicate clearly with onshore teams.

Summary
This is a 6-month contract based in downtown Toronto. We are looking for a candidate who brings "depth of experience" rather than just theoretical knowledge—someone who is comfortable managing large volumes of data and is eager to make an impact through process improvement. If you are a team player who is ready to start ASAP and grow within a leading financial organization, we want to hear from you.
