MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Transmission Planning EIT to support one of British Columbia’s largest utility providers. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career electrical engineer to gain hands-on experience in transmission planning, facility ratings, regulatory compliance, and power system asset data.

The successful candidate will support the Transmission Sustainment Planning Specialist Engineer in meeting deliverables associated with FAC-008 and FERC 881, with a focus on maintaining accurate transmission facility ratings, supporting compliance activities, and improving asset data quality.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to project-related facility rating requests by reviewing available documentation, identifying additional information requirements, and preparing facility ratings for project teams.
  • Support the annual review and maintenance of transmission facility ratings.
  • Coordinate with approximately 20–30 external entities to obtain current ratings for jointly owned transmission lines and update records accordingly.
  • Review existing ratings for internally owned transmission lines and complete required updates.
  • Update facility ratings as new engineering reports and technical information become available through the FAC-008 sustainment program.
  • Support Transmission System Operations and Transmission Planning teams with requests for information regarding existing facility ratings.
  • Assist with preparation of FAC-008 RSAW documentation and regulatory audits.
  • Support technical and data requests during audits.
  • Assist with updates to engineering standards, facility rating methodologies, and associated technical documentation.
  • Support asset data quality initiatives, including data entry, validation, corrections, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation and support continuous improvement of facility rating information.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Registered Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC or eligible for registration.
  • Entry level to one year of relevant engineering experience or equivalent.
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Experience or aptitude for maintaining and updating technical engineering documentation.
  • Ability to review and update facility rating memos.
  • Ability to learn complex engineering and compliance processes through on-the-job training.
  • Interest in or exposure to power systems, transmission lines, transmission planning, or utility engineering.
  • Strong written communication skills, particularly for technical documentation.
  • Familiarity with CAD systems, drawing standards, and engineering design/analysis software.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Nice to Have

  • Previous co-op, internship, or project experience within the utility or energy sector.
  • Exposure to transmission planning or power system engineering.
  • Understanding of regulatory or compliance-related engineering documentation.
  • Familiarity with FAC-008, FERC 881, facility ratings, or reliability compliance.
  • Programming knowledge.
