The Energy Management Engineer is a key member of the Canada Sales team, responsible for the identification, qualification and quantification of energy upgrades, utility supply and incentive opportunities and facility operating cost improvements for target projects throughout Canada.
This position is in Toronto.In addition to annual initiatives, the key accountabilities of this position are : Development of Partner Network Qualifies potential consulting engineer and mechanical contracting partners to work with on energy upgrades, managing them through the project development process.
Project Development Accurately assess and provide feedback on project engineering risk. Perform building walk throughs’ and identify energy conservation improvements (primarily mechanical and electrical) in commercial, institutional, high rise residential, industrial, data centre facilities and district energy systems.
Effectively develop scopes of work for and manage consulting engineers performing investment-grade building audits. Effectively analyze and assess the economic impacts of utility company rate structures, rebates, incentives, and supply side options in a wide variety of customer environments.
Expert use of simulation software and spreadsheets to accurately represent pre and post retrofit equipment, systems, and building operation.
Managing and implementing all phases of projects with customers from development through final installation verification.
Management of specific programs and initiatives. Negotiations with and oversight of outside contractors. Assignments involve customer projects with substantial technical complexity and initial identification and development of programs, including budgets and savings targets.
Works with government and provincial institutions to register for sustainability programs. and support customers’ applications aimed at granting incentives for carbon emissions reductions.
Technical Support Provides technical analysis / review for energy upgrade projects. Develops quotations based on energy analysis of heating and cooling loops, complete with Return on Investment and Payback calculations.
Act as a technical resource for the engineering team on complex and advanced engineering projects. Create monthly reports on energy upgrades progress (Booking / Quoting).
Organizational Communication Effectively develops and performs customer presentations. Coach other members of the team in all aspects of energy engineering.
Actively explore new technologies and develop presentations for the information of engineers and team members. Role Requirements BSME degree or technical equivalent required.
Minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience with HVAC systems and proficiency with energy analysis tools such as DOE2, TRACE and System Analyzer required.
Experience in studying cost and savings from energy conservation measures. CEM certification required or obtained within the first six months of employment;
PE registration preferred. In-depth knowledge of HVAC systems and components, computer simulation tools, energy consumption profiles in buildings, utility company rates / programs, utility supply options, engineering economics and cost savings opportunities.
Design and application knowledge of facility HVAC, central plant piping, controls, and electrical systems. Understanding / knowledge of specialized (compressed air, process cooling / heating, etc.
industrial processes is desired. Exceptional ability, proficiency, and experience with computer applications. Understanding of construction processes and schedules.
Excellent communication skills and ability to interface professionally with customers. Hands on project development and customer contact.
Ability and initiative to work independently, a self starter with a high energy level. Ability to work regularly and dependably and function in a team environment.
