TITLE : Learning resources Teacher / Inclusive Education Coordinator

FTE : 0.6-0.8 FTE or 15-20 hours per week depending on qualifications and experience.

RESPONSIBLE TO : School Principal

JOB SUMMARY : Learning resources Teacher / Inclusive Education Coordinator of Evergreen Independent School is expected to support the Principal in the tasks of educational leadership and management, and the implementation of the Independent School Act and the Evergreen Independent School Vision Statement, and Values.

On campus with hours and holidays set out in the Employment Manual.

Educational Leadership and Management :

Participates in strategic planning, and the implementation of priorities established by the Evergreen Board of Directors and the Principal.

Assists with development of annual budgets, and monitors spending to ensure that spending decisions reflect sound judgment.

Develops effective staffing schedules that reflect student and classroom need, and staff strengths.

Schedules and chairs Education Assistant meetings.

Attends Staff and Teacher meetings

Supports the development and administration of school policies that reflect the best interest of students and staff, and align with BC Ministry of Education and the Independent Schools Act, including the Special Education policies

Attends intake meetings for new students

Manage EA records, notes, observations, including Unusual Occurrence documents

Positive & Safe School Cultures :

Assists in maintaining a positive school environment by supporting student regulation, assisting in decisions around student discipline and student support.

Helps to ensure the school facility and grounds are well-maintained, and promotes the health, safety, and well-being of students, staff, and public.

Promotes communication between students, staff, parents, and community.

Inclusive Education :

Shares in the oversight of the Inclusive Education team and budgets, including staffing levels, recruitment and contracts of paraprofessionals, and scheduling of services.

Demonstrates planning and goal setting to promote student achievement, most notably with students with diverse needs, including program delivery options.

Supports the development and appropriate teaching of curriculum.

Ensures appropriate integration of technology.

Collaboratively establishes a culture that welcomes families and seeks ways to engage them in student learning, including communicating with families the inclusive education processes;

process for referrals, evaluations, assessments, support services, etc.

Fully implements and complies with the Independent School Act, including all Special Education legislation.

Manages and oversees the IEP / SSP process, including managing MyEdBC software

Personnel :

Supports the recruitment, selection, assignment and training of skilled and effective EA staff.

Arranges and supports teacher mentorships for new EA staff.

Supports staff professional development by identifying, arranging and monitoring professional development opportunities that are in line with school needs.

Evaluates educational assistant performance on the basis of established objectives and criteria, and oversees the development of individual professional growth plans.

Learning Services Team :

Liaise with teaching staff to support students with additional tutoring, including reviewing teachers plans, assessments and strategies

Liaison between staff / school and specialist; organize appointments and service times

Oversee external support services provided to students, including referrals, reports, or tracking

Ensure effective communication between team members, and ensure that team members are aligned / coordinated in their approach

Maintain contact with Bridges, SET-BC, Provincial Resource Centres, OT, SLP etc.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have :

  • A valid BC teaching certificate
  • Experience with Inclusive (Special) Education & students

Job Type : Part-time

Pay : Depending on FTE $30,000 - $45,000 per year
