Job description

Job Title: Sr. Project Manager (PM Specialist) - Data Center

Location: Calgary, AB
Type: Contract (Initially 2 months but with strong possibility of a further 4 month extension.

Starts: January 2012

Our client is seeking a Sr. PM to team up with a group of strong & collaborative team of Project Managers. The successful candidate will have exposure to a variety of other project activities either currently ongoing involving new projects soon to be realized.


Role:

-Responsible for ensuring the customer needs are satisfied by providing specific deliverables.
-Ensures strong Project Management practices in standard methodologies and processes are used to deliver an integrated solution.
-The major emphasis is on coordination of tasks and status reporting. The job may include responsibility for technical development. This position will be part of an onsite Project Management team, yet act as a single point of contact on specific projects, and will act in a liaison capacity to facilitate activity around work breakdown and delivering on project milestones.
-This person will be a proven performer, will be well organized, an excellent communicator, and have strong multitasking skills on multiple high priorities and will be successful with conflict resolution and negotiation.

Skills

-Excellent (articulate) English language communications skills
-Fluent and experienced at working in the Data Center space: The Data Centre is nearing capacity in key areas. There are other project dependencies related to resolving these capacity requirements. Solutions to these capacity requirements are being explored on an interim basis. This issues in the Data Center involve: Equipment/Rack (footprint & availability), Power (AC), Facilities (Cooling, Cabling)
-The Scope of the engagement is to manage the immediate capacity issues – including AC, Telecom, and Storage with other parties.
-This individual will gather all current demand and assess key areas impacting capacity within a short and long term horizon and assess the impact to the facility.
-Additionally the PM will be responsible for a second and separate project. This project would entail project coordination of technical resources and logistics reporting into a vendor relationship project management team needed to deliver remote office mobile communications at field sites currently limited by network footprint or using a non-standard solution.
-Have strong integration experience (commissioning new IT equipment; rack mounted network and network storage equipment in a WAN and MAN environment.

Deliverables:
• Implement a near term tactical process for dealing with current state
• Define the longer term Strategic plan for the Data Center, including stakeholders, funding responsibilities, then secure consensus around recommendation to start the Strategic Project.
Skills:
• Stakeholder management skills will be key
• Facilitation & negotiations – stakeholders will own their own perspectives on path and priority
• Coordination of vendor and customer operational aspects of the Data Center facility
• Data Centre expertise would greatly assist in quickly getting up to speed and developing a path forward
