We're looking for a hands-on IBM i Technical Lead with deep AS400 expertise and telecommunications billing experience to support and enhance legacy enterprise billing applications in Brampton. The ideal candidate ramps up independently, leads developers with discipline, and manages complex technical delivery across a high-stakes legacy application landscape.

What you'll do

• Own IBM i applications across enhancement, maintenance, production support, and stability of existing RPGLE-based solutions
• Analyze business and technical requirements, perform impact assessments, prepare solution designs, and deliver changes aligned with SDLC standards
• Provide technical leadership through work allocation, estimation, delivery planning, code reviews, and enforcement of coding and documentation standards
• Support testing, deployments, and production issue resolution including defect investigation, root cause analysis, and post-release support
• Provide ongoing knowledge transfer and operational handover to Operations, QA, and dependent teams
• Manage transition risk by identifying knowledge gaps, improving documentation, and maintaining delivery continuity
• Collaborate effectively with business, QA, Operations, and cross-functional teams

What you bring

• 10+ years of IBM i / AS400 experience including recent hands-on Technical Lead responsibilities
• Strong expertise in RPG, RPGLE (free format), CL/CLLE, COBOL, SQL/Embedded SQL, DB2 for i, ILE architecture, batch jobs, and scheduled processes
• Experience with telecommunications enterprise billing systems including billing, rating, message processing, accounts receivable, ordering, and system integrations using web services and MQ
• Proficiency with IBM i development and support tools including RDi, Implementer (MKS), Hawkeye, and PKENCRYPT/PKZIP
• Familiarity with VS Code and GitHub Copilot for IBM i development
• Strong documentation, impact analysis, and solution design skills including technical specifications, process flows, and data mappings
• Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to manage priorities and enforce delivery discipline
• Eligibility to apply for Government of Canada security clearance

Nice to have

• Experience supporting large-scale legacy modernization or stabilization programs in telecom environments
• Familiarity with DDM, display files, and subfile-based application patterns
• Prior experience managing knowledge transfer and operational readiness across multiple dependent teams

Work setup

• Hybrid in Brampton, ON - 3 days onsite, 2 days remote
• 6+ month contract
• English proficiency required
