Job Title: Business Analyst – Financial Reporting & Analytics (Executive Support)

Location: Calgary, Canada/ Houston, TX

Employment Type: Full-Time (Hybrid)

The Role

The Business Analyst will serve as a trusted analytical partner to Executive Leadership, responsible for delivering accurate, timely, and insightful financial reporting that supports strategic and operational decision-making.

This role combines strong financial and business understanding, exceptional communication skills, and hands-on ownership of analytics platforms, including Power BI for executive dashboards and Azure Data Factory for financial data integration. The Business Analyst will ensure that financial data from multiple enterprise systems is consolidated, governed, and presented clearly on a recurring monthly cadence, while also supporting ad hoc executive analysis as needed.

Key Responsibilities

1. Executive Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Act as a primary analytics support resource for Executive Leadership, delivering monthly financial reports, dashboards, and performance summaries.

  • Translate complex financial and operational data into clear, executive-ready insights, including trends, variances, and risks.

  • Partner closely with Finance, Accounting, and Leadership teams to validate financial logic, assumptions, and interpretations.

  • Proactively identify data inconsistencies, anomalies, or gaps and drive resolution with source system owners.

  • Support ad hoc executive requests related to financial performance, forecasting, and strategic analysis.

2. Power BI Reporting & Dashboard Ownership

  • Own the end-to-end lifecycle of Power BI reports and dashboards, including:

Design, development, enhancement, and ongoing maintenance

Data model optimization and performance tuning

Documentation, version control, and access governance

  • Ensure dashboards follow best practices for usability, storytelling, and executive consumption.

  • Maintain high standards for data accuracy, refresh reliability, and security.

  • Continuously improve reports based on leadership feedback and evolving business needs.

3. Data Integration & Azure Data Factory

  • Own and maintain Azure Data Factory (ADF) pipelines used to ingest, transform, and consolidate financial data.

  • Design and manage ETL/ELT workflows sourcing data from multiple internal financial systems.

  • Monitor data pipelines for failures, latency, and data quality issues, ensuring timely resolution.

  • Collaborate with IT and Finance system owners to onboard new data sources or modify existing integrations.

  • Maintain working knowledge of Azure Storage Accounts and SQL to support Power BI datasets and reporting infrastructure.

4. Enterprise Systems & Data Management

  • Extract and validate data from enterprise systems such as ERP platforms and business applications (e.g., Oracle, Salesforce).

  • Navigate enterprise data warehouses and financial reporting tools to source official, governed company financials.

  • Organize, clean, and analyze large-scale datasets, including tens of thousands of transactional or project-level records.

  • Support system validations, reconciliations, and data audits as required.

5. Financial & Forecasting Support

  • Support monthly project forecasting processes, including the collection and consolidation of forecast inputs from departmental Directors.

  • Apply sound financial understanding across P&L, revenue, costs, margins, and variance analysis.

  • Manage analysis across multiple currencies, ensuring consistent conversion and presentation in a single company reporting currency.

6. Stakeholder Engagement & Communication

  • Confidently present financial analysis and insights to Vice President and Director-level leadership.

  • Effectively respond to questions from Project Managers and operational stakeholders, adjusting the level of detail as needed.

  • Interface openly and professionally with multiple organizational levels and functional groups to gather inputs and clarify data.

  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, with a strong executive-facing mindset.

7. Execution, Judgment & Professional Skills

  • Demonstrate strong prioritization and decision-making skills to address urgent and high-impact tasks.

  • Consistently meet multiple monthly reporting deadlines with high accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Apply critical thinking to understand both high-level executive summaries and detailed transactional data.

  • Show flexibility and willingness to support ad hoc requests and special projects, including system validations.

  • Maintain professionalism, discretion, and reliability when supporting executive leadership.

Required Skills & Qualifications

1. Core Competencies

  • Strong understanding of financial concepts and corporate reporting principles.

  • Advanced experience with Power BI, including data modeling, DAX, and executive dashboard design.

  • Hands-on experience with Azure Data Factory for data integration and transformation.

  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced formulas, pivot tables, and slicers.

  • Strong working knowledge of Power Query and Power Pivot for data preparation and modeling.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, suitable for executive-level engagement.

2. Technical & Analytical Skills

  • Experience working with ERP systems and enterprise applications (e.g., Oracle, Salesforce).

  • Ability to extract and analyze data from data warehouses and financial databases.

  • Working knowledge of SQL.

  • Experience managing and analyzing large, complex datasets.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft productivity tools including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.

3. Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in Finance, Accounting, Business Analytics, or a related field.

  • Prior experience supporting C-level or senior executive stakeholders.

  • Experience operating within a cloud-based analytics environment (Azure preferred).

  • Exposure to project forecasting or regional financial reporting.

Why This Role Matters

This role plays a critical part in ensuring executive leadership has a single, trusted view of financial performance. By owning both the data pipelines and the dashboards, the Business Analyst directly enables better decisions, tighter financial governance, and greater confidence in company-wide reporting.
