Job description

We currently have

an opportunity for a Maintenance Supervisor at our Thunder Bay, ON location.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct and coordinate daily workflow, scheduling, and work priorities related to maintenance planning, purchasing, and inventory management.

  • Lead the procurement process for maintenance-related materials, equipment, and spare parts, ensuring timely, cost-effective acquisition in compliance with departmental and company policies.

  • Review, evaluate, and process purchase requests forms for accuracy, completeness, and policy compliance.

  • Draft, review, and evaluate supply and service specifications; review bids and recommend awards in accordance with procurement procedures.

  • Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to obtain pricing, negotiate terms, evaluate performance, and distribute purchasing information to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Manage and maintain accurate inventory levels, ensuring availability of critical spare parts, including contingency planning for emergency or unplanned maintenance situations.

  • Gather, record, and maintain purchasing, inventory, and asset data within the CMMS, including bills of materials, parts lists, maintenance tasks, and equipment records.

  • In conjunction with the Maintenance Superintendent, coordinate and plan plant-wide service shutdowns, ensuring sufficient parts, materials, tools, and manpower are available to complete scheduled maintenance activities.

  • In conjunction with the Maintenance Superintendent, plan, optimize, and support preventive maintenance programs for plant equipment.

  • Provide supervisory support including job observations, employee coaching, scheduling, and coverage for other maintenance supervisors during absences.

  • Support human resources activities including recruitment, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and training of maintenance personnel.

  • Support Environmental Health and Safety initiatives and manage safety procedures and practices amongst the trades group.

  • Provide labour relations support, including discipline and performance management, in accordance with company policies and collective agreement requirements.

  • Implement cost-saving and continuous improvement initiatives without compromising safety, quality, or equipment reliability.

  • Complete other related duties and special projects assigned.

  • Ability to respond to emergency call ins and work additional hours as required to fulfill the requirements of the position.

Qualifications:

  • Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering Diploma or Red Seal Mechanical and/or Electrical Trade qualification (dual trade qualification considered an asset).

  • Minimum five years of industrial maintenance supervisory, planning, and/or leadership experience.

  • Previous procurement, purchasing, and inventory management experience.

  • Experience working with vendors, suppliers, and service contractors.

  • Previous experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

  • Thorough understanding of purchasing, procurement, and inventory control procedures and policies.

  • Strong supervisory, leadership, and organizational abilities.

  • Proven analytical, planning, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and maintenance documentation.

  • Ability to interpret, apply, and explain policies, procedures, and collective agreement provisions.

  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and related software.
