JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Project Leader.

Reporting to the Section Manager - Projects, the Project Leader is responsible for leading a portfolio of multidisciplinary projects in support of the operation and sustainment of OPG’s Northeast Production (North Bay to Sudbury to Kapuskasing) .  This role is accountable for leading matrix project execution teams and coordinating project planning and execution.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in an environment where you will contribute to Ontario Power Generation’s continued growth and success in generating safe, clean, reliable low-cost power in a sustainable manner.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Ensure work is executed safely, on time, and on budget, prioritizing safety in all activities.
  • Lead and coordinate multidiscipline industrial project portfolios related to generation and the Bulk Electricity System.
  • Lead matrix project execution teams and oversee project organization and coordination.
  • Co-ordinate the preparation of specifications, bid packages, tender evaluations, and purchasing recommendations.
  • Arrange and lead meetings to align requirements and progress with designers, suppliers, construction, and operations.
  • Maintain close liaison with field construction and operations regarding design, schedules, costing, and related issues.
  • Ensure proper project documentation and adherence to Project Management and Contract Management governance.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, set clear expectations, drive accountability, and promote a team-oriented environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4-year University Degree, Engineering, Science or Business; plus completion of post-secondary courses in project management and business economics as it relates to project and asset management or by having the equivalent level of education.
  • Project Management Institute (PMI) certification is considered an asset and Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation is considered an asset.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in industrial project management, specifically, in developing project requirements and plans; preparing cost estimates; participating in contract bidding and award processes, managing projects in execution phase, and managing project closeout.
  • Extensive experience managing multidiscipline projects in heavy industrial environments, with preference for electrical or mechanical backgrounds.
  • Strong expertise in managing conflicting priorities of scope, schedule, cost, and quality.
  • In-depth knowledge of equipment and processes in generating stations or similar heavy industries, along with problem-solving and guidance abilities.
  • Experience in cost accounting, forecasting, commercial contracting, and applying construction methods, codes, and safety standards.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across teams, manage internal / external relationships, and ensure projects meet stakeholder requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and planning skills, with the ability to work effectively in a hybrid office environment; valid driver’s license required.
  • The successful candidate will exhibit uncompromising integrity and commitment to upholding corporate values, and the OPG Code of Business Conduct.

OPG is committed to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and accessible environment. If you require accommodation during the application or interview process, please contact [email protected] .

What makes a career at OPG different?

With operations across Ontario and the United States, OPG is one of the most diverse power producers in North America. As the largest generator in Ontario, we meet approximately 50% of the province’s electricity needs, largely from low-carbon sources like nuclear and hydro.

As we work to achieve our vision of Electrifying life in one generation , OPG and our family of companies are also helping advance the development of new low-carbon technologies such as Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), refurbishment projects, and electrification initiatives to help power the growing demands of a growing economy. Join OPG and make history.

Please submit your application  online at jobs.opg.com .  OPG thanks all those who apply; however, only candidates considered for an interview will be contacted.

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods. Maintaining a high-performance culture and excellence is a core expectation of every member of our leadership team and is rewarded through the established compensation framework.

OPG is committed to employment equity. As such, we encourage applicants from equity-seeking communities (Indigenous Peoples, racialized persons, persons with disabilities, and women). We strongly believe that alleviating the under-representation of equity-seeking individuals will create a stronger OPG team and allow us to better serve the needs of our diverse communities.

In order to fulfill the above-mentioned purpose, priority in hiring may be given to qualified persons who self-identify as a member of equity-seeking groups as identified in the application process. This initiative constitutes a special program under the Human Rights Code / Canadian Human Rights Act.
