Senior Purchasing Agent to act as a subject matter expert in delivering procurement processes for a financial client

Must haves:

  • A university degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field, SCMP designation is an asset.
  • 5+ years of procurement experience within the financial services industry.
  • Experience with public sector procurement including competitive bidding, working with domestic and international trade agreements.
  • Proficient in public procurement, competitive bidding process, and post contract management, can effectively handle high volumes of contract records.
  • In-depth working knowledge of applicable trade agreements (CETA, CFTA, NWPTA) and relevant legislation (FOIPPA).
  • Strong understanding of contract law and comfort using a variety of technologies and systems.
  • Exceptional skill in writing, reviewing, and editing procurement documentation (RFx, Statements of Work, contracts) with keen attention to detail.
  • Strategic thinker with excellent analytical skills using data to make informed decisions.

Nice to haves:

  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, can communicate well with business users from various backgrounds
  • Able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Key responsibilities

  • Lead procurement projects — including open competitive processes — from planning through to contract execution, ensuring fairness, transparency, and compliance at every stage.
  • Support Business Transformation (BTx), be the Procurement lead to liaise with internal stakeholders to support BTx go live, ensuring orderly contract decommissioning and contractor/consultant offboarding
  • Provide expert guidance on procurement strategy, evolving procurement trends, innovations, and best practices within the knowledge sector.
  • Monitor and uphold governance across policies, trade agreements, legislation, process workflows, and compliance standards.
  • Partner with contract managers to define and articulate business needs, establishing clear evaluation criteria to produce high-quality procurement documentation (e.g., NRFPs, RFQs).
  • Manage shared responsibilities such as contract management, third-party risk management, and onboarding/offboarding of external resources, ensuring timely and effective action.
  • Build and foster relationships with internal and external stakeholders, consistently reflecting AIMCo’s values in every interaction.

Success Measures:

  • Translate complex client requirements into clear, compliant, and successful contracts that meet organizational objectives.
  • Lead collaborative procurement efforts that align and engage a diverse group of leaders across AIMCo.
  • Champion process excellence, consistently identifying and implementing improvements that enhance procurement efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Demonstrate drive and passion for making things better — both for AIMCo and the Albertans we serve.
  • Contribute to the strategic evolution of the procurement function, positioning it as a model of best practices and value delivery.
  • Inspire confidence and trust by embodying AIMCo’s values and showing how “doing business the right way” delivers impact at scale.
  • Demonstrate accountability, integrity, and sound decision-making, upholding our cultural commitment to Doing Business the Right Way.
