Position Description

The TRE-ADD Program Therapist (Level 1) is responsible for implementing behavioural programs with children and youth who meet the eligibility requirements of the TRE-ADD program in community locations as determined by the program (e.g., in classrooms, etc.). This position will be working under the direction of a Supervising Therapist and/or a Clinical Supervisor.

Main Responsibilities

  • Working directly with clients between the ages of 6 to 18 years of age who can engage in frequent/daily intense aggressive/self-injurious/property destructive behaviours that require physical intervention in the implementation of safety plans, assessment plans (e.g., functional analysis) and/or behaviour programs. Programs will include skill building, life skills, school readiness, behaviour reduction, etc.
  • Effectively implement behavioural strategies such as Reinforcement, Verbal and Physical Prompts, Shaping, Chaining, Modelling and Fading.
  • Safety plans may require frequent use of physical interventions may include blocking problematic behaviours directed towards staff, physically moving the student (while agitated) across locations, crisis response procedures up to and including physical containments which could range from several mins to 30 mins per incident and multiple incidents could occur in a typicalwork day.
  • Collecting various forms of data across multiple variables for each client in care continuously throughout the service day.
  • Adhering to client crisis and safety plans including the use of Personal Protective Equipment. PPE to be worn is mandated by the Clinical Supervisor to ensure staff safety and may include staff wearing jackets, Kevlar sleeves, shin pads, head protection gear such as bump caps or hockey helmets, etc.
  • Resource development; and resources for general program use.
  • Communicating effectively and respectfully with critical stakeholders:
  • Establishing a rapport with the child/youth.
  • Being respectful in parent communications.
  • Establishing and maintaining a professional rapport with school board personnel through daily interactions.
  • Attending and contributing information as part of the team during clinical or administrative meetings.
  • Communicating and interacting in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Providing collegial support as required.
  • Utilizing approved educational opportunities.
  • Participating on working groups, etc. as identified.
  • Maintaining knowledge of and adhering to legislative requirements and professional standards.
  • Completing agency administrative forms e.g., serious occurrence logs, client/staff incident reports, participate in staff injury reviews.
  • Maintaining awareness of program and agency wide communications.

Qualifications

  • Completion of Community College Diploma or Certificate in a field related to Social Services, BehaviourScience Technology, Child and Youth Worker, or equivalent.
  • 6 months of previous related experience
  • Knowledge of appliedbehaviouranalysis, autism spectrum disorder and/or child development
  • Previous experience working with children and youth with severe challenging behaviours is an asset
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills
  • Successful completion and maintenance of advanced physical crisis training (e.g., SMG)
  • Mustbe able to lift and transfer 50lbs
  • Proficiencywith Microsoft Office (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Excellent teamwork,organizationand communication skills.
  • The successful candidate must provide an acceptable Police Records Check (Vulnerable Sector Screening).
  • Fluency in French is considered an asset.
