As one of with a diverse team of over 2,800 employees, we are committed to a safe and inclusive culture where each of us can connect, belong, and grow. Join us, and together, let's shape a brighter future for B.C.

Position Overview

You’re all about compliance and making sure every effort is made to meet compliance objectives and protection of the environment. You work well under pressure to deliver on objectives and meet deadlines while not losing sight of important details and managing a large portfolio of complex projects. You’re collaborative and engage stakeholders early on to ensure compliance requirements are understood and addressed in a timely manner.

In this role, you’ll support our Company and various project teams in managing environmental risk, ensuring compliance with environmental legislation, corporate policies and industry best practices. You’ll also oversee environmental consultants hired to help manage environmental risk and engage with internal and external stakeholders and government agencies.

In year 1, you will:

  • Learn about utility operations and the company’s Environmental Management System (EMS), corporate policies and processes.
  • Provide environmental regulatory support to various internal business units to manage activities for compliance with the BC Contaminated Sites Regulation (CSR).
  • Manage environmental consultant activities to ensure regulatory requirements are achieved without disruption to project schedules.
  • Review proposals, cost estimates, scopes of work and environmental investigation reports and provide recommendations to stakeholder groups.
  • Build strong relationships with internal business units and external regulatory agencies.

In year 2, you will:

  • Assist with updating relevant internal standards and guidance documents to help standardize processes to manage BC CSR environmental compliance.
  • Deliver presentations to various internal stakeholders to raise awareness of environmental compliance.
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with all relevant internal and external stakeholders.

What it takes:

  • A diploma or bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as environmental or chemical engineering, environmental science, or hydrogeology.
  • Minimum of ten years of experience in managing complex environmental issues relating to the BC CSR in the BC regulatory environment. Work experience with water treatment systems and associated discharge permitting would be an asset.
  • Field experience with all aspects of the BC CSR including environmental investigations (Stage 1 & 2 PSIs, DSIs) and regulatory forms (NIRs, SRCR, NOMs).
  • Excellent strategic decision-making skills with proven technical expertise to make difficult decisions on complex projects.
  • Working knowledge of other federal and provincial environmental legislation, regulations, and municipal bylaws as related to the energy industry.

In this role, you will have the option to participate in a flexible work program, enabling you to work from an approved flex location in British Columbia up to 85 days a year (equivalent to approximately two days a week), subject to business or operational needs.

Our engaging workplace offers a wide range of challenging opportunities, while being safe, inclusive, and diverse. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, while supporting life-long career development. We also encourage volunteerism and nourish the need to give back to your community.
