General Description
The E4 – Engineer is a professional engineer or geoscientist who applies engineering knowledge to provide engineering, estimating, planning, and quality management services for medium complexity projects and/or operations safely, with quality, within budget, and on time.

Must be comfortable using ladders, fall arrest harnesses, and other PPE, during field work activities

May require working nights or weekends occasionally based on project needs.

Responsibilities
Experience / Skills

• Minimum 8 years of structural engineering experience in Canada.

• Collaborates well working in a multi-discipline team.

· Must be independent and work effectively with minimal interaction.

• A team player that is approachable, takes initiatives, and is a proven problem solver.

• Strong verbal and written English communication skills, with demonstrated report writing skills.

· Can engage effectively with contractors and officials in a professional manner

• Demonstrated experience in structural assessment, design, rehabilitation, and construction activity support.

• Demonstrated expertise in the design of reinforced concrete, structural steel, and timber structures, with a strong working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and engineering practices.

• Thorough working knowledge of common industry construction practices in British Columbia.

• Thorough understanding of safety in the field / thorough understanding of environmental effects and impacts of existing conditions, construction activities, and permanent installations

• Familiar with codes and design requirements of Authorities Having Jurisdiction and the permitting process.

• Demonstrated understanding of EGBC professional practice requirements, including quality management, document control, engineering checks and reviews, records management, and retention of engineering documentation.

• Ability to serve as Professional of Record (PoR), assess field conditions and develop practical engineering solutions to support project delivery.

• Working experience with construction staging, temporary works, excavation support systems, and constructability reviews.

• Working experience with structural analysis software such as S-Frame, SAP2000, STAAD, and common industry software.

• Intermediate MS Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint) and common office environment software.



Qualifications
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in civil/structural Engineering by recognized universities in Canada.

• Registered P.Eng. (Civil/Structural) in good standing with EGBC.

• Prior to commencement on assignment, the selected candidate must have their own sole practitioner, or the use of their firm’s, Permit to Practice with EGBC.

• The candidate shall work under Professional Practice Management Plan, Quality Management Pillar. The Registrant shall apply their own or their firm’s Permit to Practice Number to work that is Sealed by the Registrant. Retention and preservation of all project documentation produced by the Registrant during their contract will be retained to satisfy EGBC Bylaws.

• Current confined space entry training and fall arrest training (successful candidate may acquire within 1 month of start of work).

• PSSP 2, 3, and DBC(can be provided)

Must haves:

• Minimum 8 years of structural engineering experience in Canada.

• Demonstrated experience in structural assessment, design, rehabilitation, and construction activity support.

• Demonstrated expertise in the design of reinforced concrete, structural steel, and timber structures, with a strong working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and engineering practices.

• Ability to serve as Professional of Record (PoR), assess field conditions and develop practical engineering solutions to support project delivery.

• Working experience with construction staging, temporary works, excavation support systems, and constructability reviews.

• Working experience with structural analysis software such as S-Frame, SAP2000, STAAD, and common industry software.

• Thorough working knowledge of common industry construction practices in the Utilities Industry British Columbia.

Nice-to-have Experience / Skills

• Experience working for a Canadian utility owner is an asset.

• Experience performing a variety of structural non-destructive testing (NDT) for reinforced concrete structures is considered an asset.

· Experience with structural concrete repair and rehabilitation is an asset.

• Experience with seismic retrofit of existing structures is an asset.

· Knowledge and experience in design related to Distribution plant including U/G and O/H - may include feasibility studies, preliminary design, detailed design, field work, etc.

· Demonstrated experience in structural assessment, design, rehabilitation, and construction activity support of reinforced concrete utility structures, including maintenance holes, vaults, duct banks, and other underground infrastructure.

· Familiar with MMCD, MoTT Utilities Manual, CoV Utilities Design Manual, etc. and design and permitting requirements of Authorities Having Jurisdiction.

• Bridge design knowledge is considered an asset.

• Experience with asset structural condition assessment, risk-based prioritization, and rehabilitation planning for aging infrastructure is an asset.
