Job description
Job Title: Mechanical Assembler – AM Shift
Job Description

This role involves working as part of a production team to manually assemble mechanical and electronic components for complex, high-density products. You will follow detailed diagrams and standard operating procedures to complete assemblies accurately, use hand tools and computer-based instructions, and contribute to final assembly and packing in a clean, organized manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble mechanical and electronic components along the production line according to detailed diagrams, instructions, and standard operating procedures.
  • Perform manual assembly of electronic components, including component preparation, placement, installation, and final assembly.
  • Use hand tools such as torque tools and screwdrivers, including changing bits as required, to install, mount, and fasten parts, components, wiring, and harnesses to sub-assemblies and final assemblies.
  • Work at an assigned station, primarily in a seated position, using a computer to access daily assembly assignments, diagrams, and instructions.
  • Follow established SOPs and quality standards at all times to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability of completed products.
  • Complete final assembly and packing tasks, ensuring all components meet quality and documentation requirements before shipment.
  • Accurately read and interpret assembly documentation and diagrams in English to perform detailed, repetitive tasks with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Use computer systems, including SharePoint, to pull up work orders, follow electronic instructions, and complete required paperwork and documentation.
  • Handle components and materials safely, lifting up to 40 lbs on a non-repetitive basis when needed.
  • Accurately distinguish and work with different colours when assembling and inspecting components.
  • Work efficiently in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines while maintaining quality and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with team members to maintain a positive, cooperative, and productive work environment.
  • Potentially support other areas such as surface mount technology (SMT), hand soldering, testing, or inventory as needed and as skills develop.
  • In testing-related tasks, use testing tools and computer systems to run tests and document results accurately.
  • Follow all safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment while working around machinery, solder, metals, and moving equipment.
Essential Skills
  • 1–2 years of assembly experience in a production or manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency using hand tools such as screwdrivers and torque tools, including changing bits safely and accurately.
  • Strong English communication skills with the ability to read, understand, and follow assembly documentation and diagrams.
  • Good computer skills, including the ability to use SharePoint and complete electronic paperwork and documentation.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines while maintaining high quality standards.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs on a non-repetitive basis.
  • Ability to accurately distinguish different colours for assembly and inspection tasks.
  • Experience in mechanical assembly, electrical assembly, soldering assembly, PCBA assembly, SMT soldering, or thru-hole soldering is considered essential background for the role.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a large production team and contribute to a positive, collaborative environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with electronic assembly in addition to mechanical assembly.
  • Familiarity with SMT (Surface Mount Technology) processes and equipment.
  • Hand soldering experience, including through-hole or SMT soldering.
  • Interest in learning more skilled assembly processes such as soldering, SMT, or CNC laser operations.
  • Flexibility to support cross-training and work across different production areas as needed.
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn new skills and take on additional responsibilities.
  • Strong teamwork mindset and desire to contribute to a positive, supportive work culture.
Why Work Here?

You will join a growing organization with increasing orders and strong long-term prospects, offering the potential for contract extension and future permanent opportunities. The workplace is clean, organized, and friendly, with a supportive team culture and regular social events, including occasional breakfasts, snacks, and complimentary coffee and tea. You will have the chance to work on high-tech projects and expand your skills through cross-training in areas such as soldering, SMT, and CNC laser, with ongoing development and training available for those who show aptitude. The facility is transit accessible, and most of your workday is spent seated at your station, providing a comfortable and focused work setting. Upon conversion to a permanent role, you may become eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including medical and dental coverage, vacation, and additional offerings.

Work Environment

The role is based in a large production facility with multiple departments on the manufacturing floor that is organized, clean, and generally quiet, though noise levels can be higher during morning shifts and quieter in the afternoon. Employees may occasionally be exposed to dust, solder, metals, high noise levels from operating machinery, and physical hazards from moving equipment and machine parts, and are expected to follow all safety protocols. The culture emphasizes head-down teamwork, a positive attitude, and cross-training opportunities across departments to support skill development and team flexibility, with a strong mix of women and men working together in a respectful and inclusive environment. You will be part of a production team of approximately 50 people. The standard AM shift runs from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, and there is also a 3:30 PM to 12:00 AM shift, with initial training required on the AM schedule for a few months. Dress code includes wearing a provided smock on the production floor, shoe covers, ear plugs, and goggles as needed, along with closed-toe shoes at all times. Most work is performed at a seated station using a computer to access diagrams and instructions, with repetitive, detail-oriented assembly tasks forming the core of the day-to-day work.
