Position Overview
At FortisBC, we’re focused on delivering safe, reliable energy today while building a cleaner future for tomorrow. We’re looking for a Senior Asset Management Engineer to provide strategic leadership and technical direction in the planning, development, and execution of capital and maintenance programs for our station assets. You’ll use data‑driven assessments and risk‑based decision making to ensure performance that’s safe, reliable, compliant, and cost‑effective. You’ll translate complex insights into clear business cases and actionable plans—helping shape how we invest in and care for critical infrastructure across our network.
You’ll collaborate closely with teams across operations, engineering, PMO, finance, and regulatory affairs, aligning priorities and keeping programs on track through thoughtful budgeting, scheduling, and forecasting. As a senior voice on the team, you’ll mentor engineers and analysts, raise the bar on quality, and build strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders. Your leadership will help FortisBC continue to serve customers with confidence—supporting resilient communities and a lower‑carbon energy future.
In year 1, you will:
- Develops a strong understanding of the asset portfolio—including condition, risks, lifecycle stages, and historical performance.
- Builds effective working relationships with Operations, Engineering, PMO, Regulatory teams, and leadership, establishing credibility as a technical resource.
- Delivers the first full cycle of capital and maintenance plans, supported by data, risk assessments, and cost analysis, meeting all corporate and regulatory deadlines.
- Demonstrates sound independent decision‑making, including scoping, prioritizing, and adjusting work plans as operational conditions evolve.
In year 2, you will:
- Fully owns and optimizes the asset portfolio, refining capital and maintenance strategies based on risk, performance trends, and lifecycle economics.
- Leads improvements to asset management processes, maintenance practices, or standards, contributing measurable value to the organization.
- Provides strong technical leadership and mentoring, supporting the development of engineers and analysts and ensuring high‑quality technical outputs.
- Earns strong confidence from Operations and leadership, becoming a trusted advisor for asset risk, investment decisions, and long‑term planning.
What it takes:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited university plus 8 to 12 years engineering experience.
- A deep understanding of gas distribution and transmission systems, asset lifecycle management, codes and standards, and risk‑based methodologies (RCM, RBI, and FMECA).
- Competence in analyzing asset data, interpreting trends, conducting option analyses, developing business cases, and using tools like SAP and Copperleaf C55.
- Eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC.
