About the Role Canadian Blood Services (CBS) is looking for a Regular, Full-time Manager - Environment, Energy, Radiation and Biological Safety to join our dynamic Enterprise Facilities team. The Manager of Environment, Energy, Radiation and Biological Safety is a specialized national lead responsible for the strategic oversight and continuous improvement of safety and sustainability programs across all CBS sites. This role focuses on navigating a complex framework of international standards and multi-level government legislation to ensure strict regulatory compliance and operational efficiency. By steering environmental objectives and managing radiation and biohazard protocols, the manager mitigates operational and reputational risks while ensuring the safety of personnel, products, and facilities. Ultimately, this position serves as a key driver of organizational change, balancing high-level risk management with the practical needs of building operations. Formula for Success
  • Integrate environmental and energy programs into CBS’s core strategy and daily operations through expert reporting, auditing, and compliance management. The manager oversees high-risk operational areas—including waste reduction and hazardous material control—while collaborating with Corporate Social Responsibility teams to mitigate ESG risks. By managing specialized contracts and driving organizational awareness, the position fosters a proactive culture of sustainability and ethical responsibility.
  • Manage the national Radiation and Biological Safety (RBS) programs, ensuring all activities protect personnel and products while meeting strict legislative requirements. Key duties include securing necessary licenses, developing comprehensive safety protocols, and overseeing rigorous inspections and audits. The manager also handles complex internal and external reporting to regulators and executive safety officers, while facilitating essential training to ensure employees are equipped to manage radiation and biological hazards safely.
  • Provide strategic leadership for high-risk radiation and biosafety and environmental sustainability programs, safeguarding the organization’s people, products, and reputation through rigorous regulatory compliance. The manager oversees environmental and radiation emergency response coordination, drives data-informed program improvements, and manages specialized teams to ensure alignment with international best practices. By acting as a technical advisor to all levels of the organization—including the Board—and collaborating across business lines, the incumbent proactively mitigates operational risks and optimizes performance through continuous monitoring and expert-led decision-making as it pertains to environmental sustainability, radiation and biological safety.
  • Maintain the integrity of all program documentation and training, ensuring strategies and procedures remain current, compliant, and aligned with CBS’s strategic goals. By monitoring emerging regulatory trends and managing strict change control processes, the role proactively identifies policy gaps and tracks compliance metrics to drive continuous improvement. Ultimately, this position ensures all administrative and operational standards are communicated and executed across the organization to meet or exceed legislative requirements.
  • Provide comprehensive leadership for the Environment, Energy, and Radiation Safety teams, overseeing the entire talent lifecycle from recruitment to performance assessment. The manager is responsible for optimizing team effectiveness by aligning workloads, setting clear expectations, and facilitating professional development to ensure both current operational success and long-term career growth.
Desired Education and Skills
