It is accountable for the decisions, actions and results of the day-to-day operations team.

The Manager, Operations Centre represents the organization as a whole outside of business hours and in any real time incident, with a focus on mitigating risk by promoting a safe and secure operation while focusing on business continuity.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide incident management and apply incident command best practices, including assessment of risk and threats according to defined protocols and procedures.
  • Real time management of the airport with the accountability to oversee the day-to-day operations of all airport activity airside, groundside and in the terminal.
  • Leadership of multi-functional teams in a 12-hour shift that includes the responsibility for providing guidance to all roles and is accountable for the decisions made or actions undertaken to resolve operational, safety, security and customer care issues.
  • Plan and implement any strategic objectives for the IOC (Integrated Operations Centre).

Key qualifications include:

  • At least five years’ experience working in an aviation or operational decision-making role supplemented by a post-secondary degree; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge of all aspects of airport operations including, but not limited to: emergency response and management procedures, airline operations, airfield maintenance, lease management, noise management, air traffic control operations, workplace health and safety practices and airport security measures.
  • Minimum five years of proven leadership and people management experience, preferably in an operational environment with knowledge of acts, standards, and regulations governing airport operations, along with associated policies, programs and procedures.
  • Strong communication and writing skills in English – bilingualism (English and French) is an asset.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment as well as proven customer focus in order to serve tenants and travellers in an ever-changing environment.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making skills necessary to manage operational and emergency situations as well as strong commitment to health and safety with the ability to work safely and effectively under pressure.

Although not required, French language skills are an asset as we are committed to providing bilingual services to our visitors and passengers. This helps us meet federal language obligations while ensuring a welcoming experience. Candidates who do not speak French are still strongly encouraged to apply.

Shift and weekend work are required as the Integrated Operations Centre is a 24/7 operation.

This position is open to Vancouver Airport Authority employees and external applicants. Previous job performance will be taken into consideration for all internal candidates that apply for this position.
