ABOUT THE ROLE:
We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer (aka Mold Designer) with hands-on experience building and modifying 3D mold designs. The Mold Designer designs and develops custom BLOW MOLDS and related components from part drawings, math data or verbal specifications within specified parameters.

You will also work with Tool Makers to see the design through completion. You will translate designs and sketches into fully designed concept models and production tooling. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge manufacturing projects, using advanced CAD software and engineering principles to deliver precise and reliable mold designs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop detailed mold designs using CAD software (SolidWorks).
  • Work independently to design and develop BLOW MOLDS & INJECTION MOLDS.
  • Create schematics, technical drawings, and fabrication plans for mold components, tooling, and fixtures.
  • Design detailed, accurate CAD machining files and drawings for the tool shop.
  • Design plastic part models and drawings for thin-wall containers and lids.
  • Design plastic part drawings from customer-supplied sample parts or 2D drawings.
  • Identify and address issues related to mold performance.
  • Collaborate with senior machinists to ensure mold designs meet requirements.
  • Conduct part design reviews with the shop foreman and customer.
  • Address engineering changes and shop-floor design fixes.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 5+ years of proven experience in blow mold design & injection mold design is required.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge with expertise in SolidWorks.
  • Able to proficiently complete mold designs and surfacing in SolidWorks.
  • Strong knowledge of schematics & GD&T.
  • Strong understanding of 3D assembly modeling principles.
  • Experience developing detailed drawings and mechanical schematics.
  • Mechanical engineering degree preferred.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
