Job description

We are seeking a highly accomplished Senior Software Developer - ETL for an enterprise-level contract opportunity based in Toronto. In this role, you will take on a premier data engineering and integration capacity, specializing in designing, developing, migrating, and optimizing complex ETL processes and data pipeline architectures.

As a principal ETL developer, you will bridge the gap between legacy data infrastructure, enterprise data warehouses, and modern cloud integration platforms. Operating within a hybrid work model, you will lead the code migration from Informatica PowerCenter to Informatica Intelligent Data Management Cloud (IDMC), tune complex PL/SQL procedures, design star and snowflake data warehouse schemas, and ensure seamless end-to-end data pipelines across multi-tier environments. This position demands a seasoned technical authority who can perform root-cause analysis, drive query optimization, and deliver scalable data assets.

Location: Toronto, ON

Assignment Type: Hybrid (3 days per week onsite)

Contract Duration: 2-month contract (with potential for extension)

Advantages
High-Visibility Modernization: Lead complex cloud migration initiatives transitioning legacy Informatica PowerCenter environments to Informatica Intelligent Data Management Cloud (IDMC).

Advanced Data Engineering Stack: Expand technical depth across Informatica IDMC, Oracle PL/SQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL Server, and cloud data warehouse architectures.

Complex Performance Tuning: Drive deep query optimization, database troubleshooting, and data pipeline scalability across large-scale datasets.

Flexible Working Model: Enjoy a balanced work structure combining collaborative onsite teamwork in Toronto with remote flexibility.

Responsibilities
Design, build, automate, and maintain robust ETL/ELT processes and data pipelines utilizing Informatica Intelligent Data Management Cloud (IDMC) and PL/SQL.

Migrate legacy Informatica PowerCenter v10.2 mappings, embedded SQL, and PL/SQL stored procedures developed on Oracle 11g and 19c to modern cloud environments.

Perform data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) from diverse relational and non-relational source systems into dimensional data warehouses (star and snowflake schemas).

Conduct performance tuning, query optimization, and root-cause analysis on complex SQL queries, stored procedures, packages, and database scripts.

Translate complex business specifications and functional requirements into fully tested, documented applications and data integration pipelines.

Collaborate with cross-functional project teams, business analysts, and QA leads to execute unit testing, debugging, and validation of ETL workflows.

Create de-normalized data assets from normalized relational databases and load them into destination database management systems.

Author comprehensive technical design documentation, deployment guides, interface specifications, and operational support materials.

Support database administration tasks, including configuration, backup/recovery, refresh procedures, user role management, and storage allocation using RMAN and Oracle utilities.

Participate actively in Agile/Scrum development cycles, sprint planning, and post-implementation knowledge-transfer sessions.

Qualifications
Core Requirements & Technical Expertise
ETL & Data Warehousing Tenure: 5+ years of progressive hands-on experience designing, developing, and supporting enterprise ETL processes, dimensional data modeling, and star/snowflake warehouse schemas.

Informatica Expertise: Proven experience with Informatica PowerCenter (v10.2) and hands-on expertise with Informatica Intelligent Data Management Cloud (IDMC).

Advanced Database & PL/SQL Skills: 5+ years of experience writing complex Oracle PL/SQL procedures, packages, triggers, views, and functions for data extraction, cleansing, transformation, and loading.

Performance Tuning Mastery: Deep technical experience conducting root-cause analysis, optimizing SQL query execution plans, and tuning database performance for scalability.

Cloud & Azure Data Services: Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP), specifically constructing data pipelines with Azure Data Factory and Azure SQL Server.

Version Control & DevOps: Proficiency with Git/GitHub for version control, JIRA, and Azure DevOps for issue tracking and CI/CD workflows.

Preferred Assets
Public Sector Context: Prior experience working on inter-jurisdictional public sector projects, government EA frameworks, or environmental data systems is considered an asset.

Scripting & Search Technologies: Familiarity with Python, Unix shell scripting, Elasticsearch, or RAD methodologies.

Accessibility Standards: Knowledge of digital accessibility regulations and standards (such as AODA).

Soft Skills & Delivery Attributes
Analytical Problem Solving: Superior diagnostic and troubleshooting capabilities to resolve complex data pipeline bottlenecks and systemic issues.

Consultative Communication: Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills to engage effectively with diverse technical and business stakeholders.

Team Collaboration: Highly motivated team player with a strong customer service orientation, flexibility, and a track record of meeting strict delivery timelines.
