Job description

We are seeking a hands-on and results-driven Project Manager, Engineering to join our client’s team. Our client is a leading organization in the food manufacturing industry, dedicated to operational excellence, safety, and innovation. Based in Burlington, ON , this is a full-time, on-site role (no hybrid schedule) offering the opportunity to oversee a wide range of capital projects while supporting plant operations and ensuring equipment and facility efficiency.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Engineering, the Project Manager, Engineering will be responsible for successfully managing and executing multiple capital projects, providing technical support, and troubleshooting plant equipment and service issues. This individual will work closely with Plant Managers to maintain and enhance facility performance, implement improvements, and ensure resources are effectively utilized. The successful candidate will be a proactive problem-solver who thrives in a hands-on environment, balancing technical expertise with strong leadership and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support and guidance in troubleshooting plant equipment and services.
  • Manage various capital projects from concept through to commissioning, including budgeting and vendor negotiations.
  • Schedule projects, allocate resources, and monitor timelines to ensure successful completion.
  • Ensure all contractors and trades comply with company Health & Safety policies.
  • Assist Plant Managers in fostering a continuous improvement culture across manufacturing facilities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Participate in decisions related to new equipment, installations, upgrades, redesigns, and plant repairs.
  • Identify key CFIA facility requirements for federally regulated food plants.
  • Provide regular progress and status reports regarding technical, cost, and schedule performance.
  • Take ownership and accountability for all assigned projects, ensuring timely issue resolution and alignment with business needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (required).
  • P.Eng. and / or PMP designation (preferred).
  • 3–5 years of project-related engineering experience, ideally within the food manufacturing industry.
  • Proven success managing capital projects, supplier relationships, and contract negotiations.
  • Strong technical understanding of plant operations, including refrigeration and ammonia systems.
  • Experience working in facilities that are not fully automated; comfort working with older equipment and systems.
  • Hands-on approach—comfortable working on the floor and in production areas, including the slaughtering area.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and project management skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across multiple locations.
  • Problem-solving mindset with a focus on root cause analysis and continuous improvement.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% to support GTA plants.
