Job description

Req ID:498712

At Alstom, we understand transport networks and what moves people. From high-speed trains, metros, monorails, and trams, to turnkey systems, services, infrastructure, signalling and digital mobility, we offer our diverse customers the broadest portfolio in the industry. Every day, more than 80 000 colleagues lead the way to greener and smarter mobility worldwide, connecting cities as we reduce carbon and replace cars.

Could you be the full-time Installation Engineering Designer in Toronto, ON we’re looking for?

Your future role

Take on a new challenge and apply your electrical engineering expertise in a transformative project. You’ll work alongside collaborative, detail-oriented, and innovative teammates.

You'll play a key role in reducing the carbon footprint of Canada’s busiest public transit system by supporting the delivery of installation engineering activities for the On-Corridor Works project. Day-to-day, you’ll work closely with multidisciplinary teams across engineering, design, and construction, coordinate with stakeholders to ensure seamless communication, and contribute to the successful delivery of installation deliverables.

You’ll specifically take care of installation design, including method statements, drawings, and material specifications, but also manage site documentation such as red/yellow mark-ups and punch lists to ensure accuracy and compliance.

We’ll look to you for:

  • Supporting engineering studies, including Bill of Installation Materials/Quantities, Method Statements, and Installation Materials Specification Requirements

  • Assessing monthly progress and generating internal reports, including action plans and reviews

  • Delivering installation engineering activities as per Alstom system requirements

  • Managing installation design deliverables, including drawings, method statements, and "as built" configurations

  • Creating and updating Installation BOQ as per project requirements

  • Supervising first article inspections and obtaining end-user approvals

  • Ensuring traceability to installation requirements and facilitating design coordination between BIM and Installation Design Teams

  • Following up on deliverable schedules and submitting internal reports to the Design Lead

All about you

We value passion and attitude over experience. That’s why we don’t expect you to have every single skill. Instead, we’ve listed some that we think will help you succeed and grow in this role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field

  • P. Eng certification in progress (desired)

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD for drafting and modifying 2D drawings

  • 1-3 years of experience in electrical design (project and/or construction experience appreciated)

  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)

  • Basic knowledge of railway products and services in different market segments (Urban, Mainline, F&M) (desirable)

  • Familiarity with BIM procedures and tools (desirable)

  • Ability to interpret and work with mechanical and electrical drawings for installation

  • Strong communication skills and experience working in a unionized environment

  • Physical ability to walk on uneven ground, carry tools, and work outdoors in adverse weather conditions

  • Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and/or holidays as required by the project

Things you’ll enjoy Join us on a life-long transformative journey – the rail industry is here to stay, so you can grow and develop new skills and experiences throughout your career. You’ll also:

  • Enjoy stability, challenges, and a long-term career free from boring daily routines

  • Work with new security standards for rail signalling

  • Collaborate with transverse teams and helpful colleagues

  • Contribute to innovative projects that shape the future of mobility

  • Utilise our flexible and inclusive working environment

  • Steer your career in whatever direction you choose across functions and countries

  • Benefit from our investment in your development, through award-winning learning opportunities

  • Progress towards senior engineering or project leadership roles

  • Benefit from a fair and dynamic reward package that recognises your performance and potential, plus comprehensive and competitive social coverage (life, medical, pension)

Compensation

The expected compensation for this role is $70,000 – $85,000 CAD per year, plus benefits and eligibility for an annual performance bonus. Final compensation will be based on skills, experience, and internal equity.
