HireArt is helping our client find a highly motivated and detail-oriented Engineering Technician to support the maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, and operational readiness of advanced vehicle platforms and fleet systems.
In this role, you’ll support fleet operations by diagnosing and resolving issues across vehicle electrical, compute, and sensor systems. This position is focused more heavily on fleet reliability, debugging, system integration, and vehicle uptime than assembly-line production work. You’ll work closely with engineering and operations teams to support root cause analysis, maintain fleet readiness, and improve the performance of advanced vehicle platforms in fast-paced operational environments.
We’re looking for someone with hands-on experience in automotive, electrical, robotics, or autonomous vehicle environments who is comfortable troubleshooting vehicle systems, interpreting wiring diagrams and schematics, and working with advanced sensor and compute technologies.
As an Engineering Technician you will:- Troubleshoot vehicle systems, onboard compute hardware, sensors, and electrical components, performing root cause analysis and calibration activities.
- Diagnose and debug vehicle electrical systems using wiring diagrams, schematics, and automotive diagnostic tools.
- Support fleet maintenance, operational readiness, and system validation activities.
- Work collaboratively with engineering and operations teams to minimize vehicle downtime while prioritizing safety and performance.
- Support debugging and integration activities related to vehicle power architecture, networking, and sensor systems.
- Assemble, modify, and troubleshoot electrical wiring and cable assemblies according to engineering instructions.
- Document and maintain detailed diagnostic, assembly, and troubleshooting procedures.
- Manage inventory systems for components, tools, and lab supplies while maintaining organization and efficiency.
- Support procurement activities and maintain relationships with suppliers as needed.
- Work within shop, lab, and fleet environments while maintaining high standards of workmanship and safety.
Requirements
- 2+ years of technical experience in automotive, autonomous vehicle, robotics, electrical, mechanical, or related industries
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic experience with vehicle electrical, compute, or mechanical systems
- Experience reading and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical datasheets
- Familiarity with vehicle power architecture, onboard compute systems, and vehicle networking concepts
- Practical experience with advanced vehicle technologies such as LiDAR, radar, cameras, or similar sensor systems
- Experience using automotive diagnostic tools and troubleshooting hardware/software integration issues
- Proven ability to assemble and troubleshoot electrical wiring and cable assemblies
- Experience working in a shop, lab, fleet, or testing environment, including soldering and high-quality workmanship practices
- Familiarity with shop equipment, 3D printers, and related technical tooling
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
- Enthusiasm for learning new technologies and thriving in fast-paced operational environments
Preferred Qualifications:- Familiarity with Python or other scripting/programming languages
- Experience with Linux or ROS environments
- Familiarity with CAN systems, networking, or vehicle communication protocols
- CNC, machining, metalworking, or welding experience
- Knowledge of automotive repair and maintenance practices
- Experience designing or prototyping custom harness cables
- Familiarity with CAD software such as SolidWorks for reviewing or modifying 3D models

Commitment: This is a full-time, ongoing contract position staffed via HireArt. This role is onsite in Sunnyvale, CA and available to candidates based in the Bay Area.
