Providing full service in the residential, industrial, commercial, and institutional (ICI) spaces on a national scale.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Site Supervisor, the Site Foreperson is the second management level in command and has a further role as a coordinating manager and client interface. The Site Foreperson directs and manages all onsite manpower, subcontractors and equipment, while advocating and enforcing the company’s direction, policies, procedures and safety standards, through to meeting construction deadlines. In collaboration with the Site Supervisor, the Site Foreperson is responsible for the efficient use of labor, equipment, tools and materials by their crews. Site Supervisors must be familiar with contract interpretation, policies and procedures.

Incentives include vehicle allowance, GRSP matching program, etc.

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

1. Safety

The site foreperson must provide leadership that results in a safe work culture, is responsible and accountable for the safety of the crew under his/her direction and must understand and accept the importance and legal liability of the role. This includes:

  • Knowing and understanding the requirements of the WCB Acts & Regulations.
  • Knowing, understanding, communicating, and ensuring compliance with WCB Acts & Regulations and company safety policies and procedures.
  • Facilitate mandatory safety toolbox meetings with assigned crew.
  • Ensuring completion of initial safety and hazard assessments.
  • Participating in safety/incident investigations.
  • Ensuring that vehicle and equipment checks are carried out fully and any deficiencies are reported.

2. Leadership & Supervision

The site foreperson coordinates the crew and must understand and consistently apply the company’s policies. The site foreperson is required to be involved and supportive of any day-to-day disciplinary decisions. This includes:

  • Communicating the job expectations and deliverables to the crew.
  • Assigning and re-distributing tasks amongst the crew.
  • Recognizing, addressing, and resolving issues/problems among/between crew members.
  • Maintaining work standards and outlining behavioral expectations to ensure crew morale and optimal productivity.
  • Applying the principles of workplace respect while on site.
  • Ensuring crew compliance with project policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring crew compliance with company policies and procedures.

3. Planning & Scheduling

The site foreperson is accountable for following project plans and schedules and ensuring that crews under his/her direction perform daily and weekly activities to meet production goals. This includes:

  • Translating general work requirements into a prioritized work plan for the crew.
  • Working with the crew to overcome work challenges.
  • Periodically reassess daily goals to meet forecasted production.

4. Employee Relations

The site foreperson must champion an inclusive employee relations culture, is accountable for the adherence to policies and procedures by the crew to ensure a respectful and inclusive work environment. This includes:

  • Recognizing, addressing, and resolving issues/problems among/between crew members.
  • Promoting, supporting, and facilitating teamwork and harmony between all crew members by promoting and fostering a positive, visible teamwork attitude among all crew members.

5. Quality Control

The site foreperson is accountable for ensuring that the completed work meets quality standards. This includes:

  • On-site assessment prior to commencing work to ensure that the job is ready, and addressing any concerns.
  • Overseeing the execution of the work, including quality and production, ensuring that the crew works to job specifications and follows the plans.
  • Inspecting and measuring completed work.
  • Participating in QA/QC programs.

6. Administration

The site foreperson is accountable for the preparation of reports as required by the employer. It is the responsibility of the site foreperson to cease all work when the contract quantity has been fulfilled and await written authorization for any work outside of or beyond the original contract. This includes:

  • Maintaining site foreperson’s log & site reports.
  • Preparation of daily production records.
  • Reporting on work progress.
  • Change Orders.
  • Completing material take-off & quality reports.
  • Daily time keeping & reporting.
  • Worker disciplinary reports.
  • Recommending personnel actions such as hiring, releasing, promotions and discipline.

Requirements

  • Good standing member with the ITA.
  • Certificate of Qualification (Red Seal) or equivalent qualifications.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as an Electrical Journeyperson.
  • 10 years’ experience as a construction worker.
  • A solid understanding of all construction trades and electrical techniques.
  • Strong management, delegation, planning and leadership skills.
  • Effectiveness in the areas of construction safety and productivity.
  • Knowledge of local, provincial, and federal workplace compliance regulations, ordinances, and legislation.
  • Familiarity with employee relations and contract interpretation and procedures.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Excellent time management and project management skills.
  • High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise necessary cost control measures.
  • Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment.
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Able to work well under pressure & strong attention to detail.
  • Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally always.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft computer software (e.g., Excel, Word, etc.) and email.
  • First Aid skills and/or certificates are considered assets.
  • 24/7 availability may be required.
  • Physical ability to lift to 50lbs.
  • Overtime as required.
