Job description

Unique opportunity for a highly capable, trustworthy, and well-rounded accounting professional to step into a hands-on leadership role supporting a multi-entity financial environment. The role offers broad exposure to daily accounting operations, financial reporting, and process improvement while working closely with senior business leaders. Ideal role for someone who values discretion, enjoys building strong accounting processes, and thrives in a high-trust, stable, and detail-oriented environment.

Who- the Company:

Our client is a private and well-capitalized Vancouver-based Family Office that manages a portfolio of investments and operating entities across multiple jurisdictions.
The organization works within a lean and collaborative structure, partnering closely with senior leadership and external advisors to ensure well-controlled financial operations. The culture is professional, discreet, and highly trust-based, with an emphasis on accuracy, accountability, and integrity.
The family office has a tightknit team working in a professional environment that values discretion, organization, and high standards for financial accuracy. The Finance Manager position requires strong attention to detail, ownership of accounting processes, and the ability to handle sensitive financial information with complete confidentiality.

What- the Role:

On behalf of our client, Swim Recruiting is seeking a Finance Manager who will oversee the day-to-day accounting operations across multiple entities while ensuring strong financial controls, reliable financial processes, and accurate reporting.
The Finance Manager will work very closely with external accounting & finance advisors (based in Vancouver and elsewhere in Canada), the CEO (based in Vancouver), and the operations team (based in Vancouver). This is a senior level individual contributor role (no direct reports).
Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining the accuracy and integrity of accounting records across multiple entities.
  • Establishing and maintaining internal controls, approval workflows, and documentation standards.
  • Managing full-cycle accounting operations including accounts payables, accounts receivables, and general ledger maintenance.
  • Overseeing bank and credit card reconciliations and ensuring accounts remain accurate and current.
  • Managing intercompany transactions and maintaining supporting schedules.
  • Leading the month-end close process and preparing financial reports and supporting schedules for leadership review.
  • Supporting budgeting, variance analysis, and financial planning processes.
  • Administering payroll and coordinating with external providers as required. (small payroll, not very time consuming)
  • Administering staff benefits plan and monitoring vacation calendar (not many employees, not very time consuming).
  • Liaising with financial institutions and external advisors regarding operational financial matters and documentation requests.
  • Supporting cross-functional workflows that impact finance operations while helping to establish consistent and efficient processes.

Who- the Candidate:

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented accounting professional with strong technical accounting skills and the ability to operate independently within a multi-entity environment.

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting work experience in multi-entity environments
  • CPA designation is highly preferred, but not necessarily required for candidates with directly relevant work experience.
  • Experience in a family office is preferred, but we will also consider candidates who have worked in similar environments with small tight-knit teams… such as investment firms, professional services firms, wealth management firms, real estate investment trusts (REITs), etc.
  • Foundational experience in a public practice firm is a plus, with relevant client list of small to midsize entrepreneurial private companies.
  • Demonstrated experience managing full-cycle accounting operations including month-end close and financial controls.
  • Strong knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and general ledger accounting.
  • Payroll experience is a plus.
  • Experience communicating and collaborating with external advisors such as accountants, fractional CFOs, legal counsel, and banks/financial institutions.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Experience supporting budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis is beneficial.
  • Systems:
    • Hands-on experience with cloud-based accounting systems such as QuickBooks Online or XERO.
    • Experience using a document workflow tool or automation tool is a very beneficial.
    • Proficiency in Excel is required.

How Much:

Base salary commensurate with level of skills, experience, and if/when CPA designation was achieved- likely in the range of $90,000 to $120,000. Plus benefits, paid vacation, etc. Please discuss your total compensation expectations in further detail with SWIM.

Where:

Vancouver, BC. Based in a nice area of town, outside of downtown, accessible by foot, bike, transit, or car. Full-time in office role, with very good work/life balance for someone who works productively and efficiently.
