Job Description
The Corporate Controller is responsible to build financial clarity, governance and trust across SSENSE’s business. This role exists to ensure the company’s financial foundation is scalable, efficient, compliant, and has the necessary insight to drive success in a fast-paced, complex environment.
As Corporate Controller, you will lead the accounting function, responsible for driving transformation and improvement across its core processes and outputs.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone that thrives at the intersection of technical accounting excellence, operational discipline and rigor, and team development.
What You Will Do :
Financial Reporting & Strategic Insight : You are the primary owner of the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Beyond just "closing the books," you partner with FP&A to translate variances and budget discrepancies into actionable strategic insights for the leadership team.
Operational Accounting & Governance : This is the "engine room" of the role. You oversee all corporate accounting operations, including the GL, cost accounting, inventory, and revenue recognition. You are responsible for strengthening internal controls and maintaining documented business processes to ensure total financial integrity.
Audit, Compliance & Risk Management : You serve as the lead liaison for external auditors. Your goal is to ensure compliance with financial regulations while proactively anticipating technical accounting issues and leveraging technology to improve the speed and quality of reporting.
Cost Optimization & Performance Tracking : Working closely with stakeholders, you identify and monitor cost-saving initiatives. You drive the cadence of financial performance meetings (weekly / monthly) to ensure the company is hitting its efficiency targets and rigorous tracking metrics.
People Leadership & Talent Development : You are tasked with fostering a performance-driven, inclusive culture. This includes conducting performance reviews, analyzing individual KPIs, and actively coaching direct reports to prepare them for future promotion.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
Professional designation (CA, CGA, CMA / CPA).
A minimum of 10 years experience in progressive accounting roles, including 5 years experience as a Corporate Controller with systems implementation.
Experience utilizing and identifying efficiencies with SAP.
Experience in digital media or international retail industry, an asset.
Bilingual (French and English).
What Sets You Apart :
Organizational Leadership : You lead a large function or department, successfully driving strategic goals, managing performance through other leaders, and making high-impact resource allocation decisions.
Legal / Business Judgement : You independently assess, quantify, and mitigate high-stakes legal risks, providing clear, commercially viable options to executive leaders facing ambiguous situations.
Prioritization & Scoping : You independently manage conflicting multi-functional demands, expertly negotiating scope boundaries and resource constraints to ensure critical deadlines are met.
Analytical & Problem Solving : You independently select and rigorously apply sophisticated, non-routine analytical tools (e.g., statistical modeling) to diagnose root causes for systemic issues.
Stakeholder Management : You consistently influence cross-functional senior leadership to align on complex goals and proactively manage conflicting stakeholder interests to drive consensus.
